POSITIONING THE LEGSPOSITIONING THE BODYThree leg positions are possible with the General Purpose Sling: open, divided andclosed. The closed position is for transfers, the open and divided positions are fortoileting and bathing as well as transfers. The closed position is often felt to be moredignified, controls muscle spasms and is beneficial for transfers of amputees.To achieve the openposition, bring the legbands up between thethighs and attach the legstraps to the ends of thecarry bar.To achieve the dividedposition, bring the legbands up between thethighs, thread one legstrap through the bottomopening of the other andattach the straps to theends of the carry barcrossover-style.For a more relaxed dividedposition, bring the legbands up between thethighs and attach thestraps to the center of thecarry bar. This methodtakes pressure off thethighs.To achieve the closedposition, pull one legband, then the other,underneath both thighs.Bring each leg bandstraight up and attach tothe end of the carry bar.Positioning the body is done with the various loops of the head, shoulder and leg straps.Always color-match the loops of each pair of straps to achieve level loading.To achieve the upright position, use the shortloops of the head and shoulder straps and thelong loops of the leg straps. This is the mostcommon position and is referred to by practitionersas LLSS: “Legs Long/Shoulders Short”.To achieve various reclining position,use the middle or long loops of thehead and shoulder straps and themiddle or short loops of the leg straps.The short loops of the hip straps serve to increase clearance.13
