FreeStyle & FreeStyle 5 User Manual — 23Alarm ConditionsSTART-UP ALARMA brief alarm sounds when the FreeStyle orFreeStyle 5 is first powered on. This is normal. Theconcentrator begins to operate once the brief alarmstops.LOW BATTERY ALARMAs the battery pack power approaches a low level,a brief alarm sounds intermittently and the yellow25% battery gauge indicator light will illuminateintermittently. When this occurs, connect theFreeStyle or FreeStyle 5 to an AC or DC poweroutlet, or change to an alternate oxygen source.When connected to AC or DC power, theconcentrator will operate while recharging thebattery pack.CANNULA DISCONNECTWhen FreeStyle or FreeStyle 5 is operating butdoes not sense breathing, a constant alarm sounds,and the alarm light illuminates after 15 minutes. Ifthis occurs, check the connection from the cannulato the FreeStyle or FreeStyle 5 unit, make sure thatthe nasal cannula is positioned properly on yourStatus Audible Alarm Light Indicates ActionStart-Up Brief, continuous atstart–up(Green) pulse;continuous lightFreeStyle orFreeStyle 5 has beenturned onYou may begin to operate your FreeStyleunit.NormalOperationNo (Green) pulse;intermittent lightFreeStyle orFreeStyle 5 isdelivering oxygen as apulse flow.Continue using FreeStyle normally.Alarm Continuous: Beep (Red) alarm;continuous lightNo breath detectedby the unit for apredetermined timeperiod.Check the cannula connection. Ensurethat you are breathing through yournose. If the alarm continues to sound, changeto another source of oxygen as available, andcontact your Equipment Provider.BREATH RATE EXCEEDEDIf your breathing rate causes the capacity ofFreeStyle or FreeStyle 5 to be exceeded, a rapidalarm sounds every ½ second, and the alarm lightilluminates red intermittently. When this occurs,the concentration of oxygen that the FreeStyleor FreeStyle 5 is supplying is outside of the unitspecifications. You should reduce any physicalactivity, reset alarm by turning unit off and backon, and then if necessary change to anothersource of oxygen as available, and contact yourEquipment Provider.GENERAL MALFUNCTIONIf FreeStyle or FreeStyle 5 has a generalmalfunction, a rapid alarm sounds every ½ second,and the alarm light illuminates red continuously.When this occurs, the concentration of oxygen thatFreeStyle is supplying is below unit specifications.You should change to another source of oxygen asavailable, and contact your Equipment Provider.
