INTRODUCTION1-3The chief benefit provided by out-of-band access capability is that itallows you to manage your network in the event that the in-band networkcommunication infrastructure that supports remote communication withthe MicroMMAC-T becomes inoperable. You can also access LM from an in-band Telnet connection from anyTCP/IP-based node linked to the MicroMMAC-T. The MicroMMAC-Tallows up to four concurrent Telnet sessions with LM. See theMicroMMAC-T Local Management Guide for information about usingLM.Remote SNMP ManagementThe MicroMMAC-T’s management agent can collect data on and processSNMP requests for up to 255 stations on the ring. Cabletron Systemsoffers the following remote management packages you can use to fullyexploit the MicroMMAC-T’s management capabilities:• SPECTRUM• Remote LANVIEW/Windows-Spectrum Element Manager• Remote SPECTRUM Portable Management Application (SPMA) forthe MicroMMAC-T1.2.3 Firmware Downloads To Flash EEPROMThe MicroMMAC-T is equipped with Flash EEPROM (ElectricalErasable Programmable Read Only Memory). It stores the operating code(or firmware image) that is loaded into RAM when the MicroMMAC-T ispowered up or reset. When you want to replace the current image in FlashEEPROM, you can initiate a download of a new (or preferred) imagefrom a TFTP/BootP server using the Local Management Flash Downloadscreen (see the MicroMMAC-T Local Management Guide forinstructions) or any SNMP-compliant remote management applicationproviding TFTP/BootP-protocol services.NOTEThe CRBRIM-W/T and the MicroSNAC-T accessories eachinclude their own embedded configuration/managementapplications.
