Configuring Your ELS100-16TX3-195. LCM prompts you to verify the new community name byretyping it.6. Retype the new community name.3.13 CONFIGURING BROADCAST/MULTICAST STORMPROTECTIONThe ELS100-16TX provides automatic protection againstbroadcast/multicast storms. Multicast storms are excessivebroadcasts to all ports, typically caused by a malfunctioningdevice. They can result in severe network performance problems, including causing the network to crash. To protect against broadcast/multicast storms, you must define anacceptable rate for multicast traffic across a port. In many ways, this feature is similar to filtering. Each ELS100-16TX port can be individually configured forautomatic multicast storm protection. You define what level ofmulticasts the ELS100-16TX will recognize as a multicast storm byspecifying the number of multicast packets that can be transmittedwithin a given time period. For example, if you configure ELS100-16TX to transmit onto Port 3no more than five multicasts per 60 seconds, any multicastsdestined for Port 3 are discarded after the first five multicasts. After 60 seconds have elapsed, another five multicasts to Port 3will be allowed. This maintains an effective maximum rate of fivemulticast packets per minute.Note: LCM does not allow you to configure for multicast stormprotection. You must use an SNMP-based NMS. See thedocumentation that came with your NMS for configurationinstructions.
