SECTION 2. TOWER INSTALLATION2-62.2 SENSOR MOUNTING BRACKETSSensor mounting brackets provide a means ofmounting the sensors to the tower. Generalorientation of the mounting brackets is shown inFigure 2.2-1.2.2.1 019ALU CROSSARM SENSOR MOUNT1. Loosen the two bolts that secure the mastto the top tower section. Extend the mast16" (swaged end up) above the top of thetower and tighten the bolts.2. Attach the 019ALU crossarm to the mast asshown in Figure 2.2-2. Position the middleNU-RAIL at the base of the swaged mastsection. Orient the 019ALU in a north/southdirection, with the 3/4" NU-RAIL facingsouth (northern hemisphere) and tighten theset screws.3. Install the lightning rod to the mast asshown in Figure 2.2-2. Loosen the twoscrews on the lightning rod mountingbracket. Position the mounting bracket 2"down from the top of the mast and tightenboth screws evenly. Make sure thelightning rod set screw is tight.2.2.2 GILL RADIATION SHIELDS1. Attach the Gill Radiation Shield (UT12VA,UT12P, or UT6P) to the UT018 crossarmwith the bolt and nut provided (Figure 2.2-3).2. Attach the UT018 to the tower leg facing theprevailing wind direction (Figure 2.2-3). Thetop of the crossarm mounting bracket shouldbe 74" from the bottom of the tower. Tightenthe four nuts on the compression bracket tosecure the crossarm.2.2.3 UTLI LEVELING FIXTURE ANDCROSSARM MOUNT1. Attach the UTLI leveling fixture to the UT018crossarm with the nut and bolt provided(Figure 2.2-4).2. Attach the UT018 to a tower leg so that thecrossarm faces south (northern hemisphere).The top of the crossarm mounting bracketshould be 98 inches from the bottom of thetower.
