Canadian Solar Inc.42 |ANNEX D: MODULE CLEANING GUIDELINEThis manual covers requirements for the cleaningprocedure of Canadian Solar Inc. photovoltaic mo-dules. The purpose of these cleaning guidelines is toprovide general information for cleaning CanadianSolar modules. Professional installers should readthese guidelines carefully and strictly follow theseinstructions.Failure to follow these instructions may result indeath, injury or property damage to the photovol-taic module. Damages induced by inappropriatecleaning procedures will void Canadian Solar Inc.warranty.SAFETY WARNING· Cleaning activities create risk of damaging themodules and array components, as well as increa-sing the potential electric shock hazard.· Cracked or broken modules represent an electricshock hazard due to leakage currents, and the riskof shock is increased when modules are wet. Before cleaning, thoroughly inspect modules forcracks, damage, and loose connections.· The voltage and current present in an array duringdaylight hours are sufficient to cause a lethal elec-trical shock.· Do not immerse the module, partially or totally, inwater or any other cleaning solution.· Ensure that the circuit is disconnected beforestarting the cleaning procedure as contact withleakage of electrically active parts can result ininjury.· Ensure that the array has been disconnected fromother active components (such as inverter or com-biner boxes) before starting with the cleaning.· Wear suitable protection (clothes, insulated gloves,etc.).HANDLING NOTICE· Use a proper cleaning solution and suitablecleaning equipment.· Do not use abrasive or electric cleaners on themodule.· Particular attention should be taken to avoid themodule backsheet or frame to come in contactwith sharp objects, as scratches may directly affectproduct safety.· Do not use abrasive cleaners, de-greasers or any un-authorized chemical substance (e.g. oil, lubricant, etc.)on the module.· Do not use cleaning corrosive solutions containinghydrofluoric acid, alkali, acetone, or industrial alcohol.Only substances explicitly approved by Canadian Solarare allowed to be used for cleaning modules.· Canadian Solar Inc. recommends to avoid rotatingbrush cleaning methods, as they could createmicro-cracks in the PV modules.· Dirt must never be scraped or rubbed away whendry, as this will cause micro-scratches on the glasssurface.OPERATION PREPARATION· Noticeable dirt must be rubbed away by gentlecleaning-implement (soft cloth, sponge or brushwith soft bristles).· Ensure that brushes or agitating tools are notabrasive to glass, EPDM, silicone, aluminum, orsteel.· Conduct the cleaning activities avoiding the hottesthours of the day, in order to avoid thermal stresson the module. We recommend the following to be used:· Water with low mineral content· Near neutral pH water· The maximum water pressure recommendedis 4 MPa (40 bar)CLEANING METHODS
