47Inserting/Removing the Battery and CardFormatting the CardIf the card is new or was previously formatted (initialized) by another cameraor computer, format the card with this camera (=492).z The number of possible shots varies depending on the remaining capacity ofthe card, the settings of image quality, ISO speed, etc.z When the access lamp is lit or blinking, it indicates that images are beingwritten to, read from, or erased from the card, or data is being transferred.Do not open the card slot/battery compartment cover. Also, never do anyof the following while the access lamp is lit or blinking. Otherwise, it candamage the image data, card, or camera.y Removing the card.y Removing the battery.y Shaking or striking the camera.y Unplugging and connecting a power cord (when household power outletaccessories (sold separately) are used).z If the card already contains recorded images, the image number may not startfrom 0001 (=488).z If a card-related error message is displayed on the screen, remove and reinsertthe card. If the error persists, use a different card.If you can transfer images on the card to a computer, transfer all the imagesand then format the card with the camera (=492). The card may then returnto normal.z Do not touch the card’s contacts with your fingers or metal objects. Do notexpose the contacts to dust or water. If smudges adhere to the contacts,contact failure may result.z Multimedia cards (MMC) cannot be used. (Card error will be displayed.)z Use of UHS-II microSDHC/SDXC cards with a microSD to SD adapter is notrecommended. When using UHS-II cards, use SDHC/SDXC cards.
