Troubleshooting8-2Clearing JamsThis section describes how to removejammed paper. When error messagesappear on the LCD display, see “LCDMessages,” on p. 8-9. For other troubles,see Chapter 8, “Troubleshooting,” in theReference Guide.When , or JAM/OPEN REAR COVER> appears on theLCD display, remove jammed paper fromthe machine first, then from the paperfeeder if necessary. Check the following ifyou experience repeated paper jams:Fan and tap the paper stack on aflat surface before loading it in themachine.Check that the paper you are usingmeets the requirements for use. (See“Paper Requirements,” on p. 2-6.)Make sure you have removed anyscraps of paper from the inside of themachine.–––When removing jammed documents or paper,take care not to cut your hands on the edges of thedocument or paper.When removing jammed paper or when inspectingthe inside of the machine, do not allow necklaces,bracelets, or other metal objects to touch theinside of the machine, as this may result in burns orelectrical shock.If you tear the paper, remove any torn pieces toavoid further jams.If loose toner comes into contact with your skin orclothing, wash with cold water.
