Connecting to a TV or VCR68Playback on a TV ScreenThe quality of the playback picture willvary depending on the connected TV andthe type of connection used.POINTS TO CHECKChange the following settings asnecessary before making theconnections. Refer to the correspondingexplanation of each setting in thePLAY/OUT SETUP menu option list( 38).- [PLAYBACK STD] to select the output videostandard.- [TV TYPE] to match the output video to theaspect ratio of the connected TV.- [COMP.OUT] to select the videospecifications when using connection type .- [DV OUTPUT] to select the standard of theoutput video when using connection type .ConnectingConnect the camcorder to the TVfollowing one of the connection diagramsshown in the previous section ConnectionDiagrams ( 65).Playback1 Turn on the camcorder and theconnected TV or VCR.On the TV: Select as the video inputthe same terminal to which youconnected the camcorder. On theVCR: Set the input selector to theexternal video input (usually labeledLINE IN).2 Start the playback of the movies( 27) or still images ( 31).NOTESTurn off all the devices before starting theconnections.Sound from the built-in speaker will be mutedwhile the STV-250N Stereo Video Cable isconnected to the camcorder.We recommend powering the camcorderusing the compact power adapter.If you connect to a TV using the HDMIconnection –connection type – or the videocomponent connection –connection type –you can enjoy the full resolution ofhigh-definition TV.About the HDMI terminalThe HDMI (High-Definition MultimediaInterface) connection –connection type – is aconvenient all-digital connection using a singlecable for both video and audio. When youconnect the camcorder to an HDTV equippedwith an HDMI terminal, you can enjoy video andaudio playback at the highest quality.- The HDMI terminal on the camcorder is foroutput only. Do not connect it to an HDMI outputterminal on an external device, as this maydamage the camcorder.- The HDMI connection will recognizeautomatically the highest resolution supportedby the connected HDTV, and output the optimalvideo signal to ensure the best viewingexperience. You can confirm the currentspecification of the video output in the [HDMIOUT] information display at the bottom of thePLAY/OUT SETUP2 menu screen inmode ( PLAY/OUT SETUPmenu in other modes).- Correct operation cannot be guaranteed whenconnecting the camcorder to DVI monitors.- Some HDTVs have their HDCP digital contentprotection configured so as not to allow theplayback of personal content (video recordedfor personal uses). If you cannot play back thevideo recorded with this camcorder on yourHDTV using the HDMI connection, tryconnecting the camcorder using the videocomponent connection –connection type –instead.- There will be no video output from the AV/terminal or the COMPONENT OUT terminalwhile the camcorder is connected to an externaldevice using the HDMI cable.
