Start HereEasy Setup Instructions Office All-In-OneQ T 5 1 3 8 1 V 0 1Unpack the Machine Please confirm the included items against the illustration printed on the lid of the packing box.A USB cable is necessary to connect the machine with your computer.••1 Prepare the Machinea Place the machine on a flat andhorizontal surface, and do not placeany objects in front of the machine.Remove all the shipping tapes on the outside ofthe machine.Then open the Paper Output Tray and theOutput Tray Extension.b Remove the protective material in theADF (Auto Document Feeder).Protective MaterialCautionBefore turning on the machine, remove all of theshipping tapes.c Connect the telephone line and anynecessary external device.You can connect an external device (telephoneor answering machine) if necessary.Remove the Telephone connector cap toconnect the external device.Connect the telephoneline cable to the wall jack.Telephone connector capConnect external devices as follows:External Device JackTelephone Line JackTelephone or answering machineBuilt-in computer modem and telephoneTelephonelineTelephonelineMachineMachineTelephone oranswering machineTelephoneComputerLINE TELImportantBe sure to use the bundled telephone line cable.d Plug the power cord in the back of themachine and connect the other end tothe wall outlet.Power CordDocument CoverImportantMake sure that the Document Cover is closed.Do NOT connect the USB cable at this stage.••e Press the ON/OFF button to turn on themachine. The machine will initialize.Wait until the Power lamp stopsflashing and remains lit green.f Press the { or } button on theOperation Panel to select the languagefor the LCD, then press the OK button.(1) Press the { or }button to select thelanguage.(2) Press the OKbutton.ImportantIf an unintended language is displayed on theLCD, press the Back button on the OperationPanel to return to the Language selection screen.If the message “Install the print head and setthe ink tank.” appears, go to g.g Lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover)with both hands, and set the ScanningUnit Support. The Print Head Holderautomatically moves to the center.Scanning Unit Supporth Write down the serial number locatedinside the machine. You will need thisto register your product.Serial Numbera Firmly raise the Print Head Lock Leveruntil it stops.b Remove the Print Head from itspackage.Do not touch!CautionThere may be some transparent or light blue inkon the inside of the bag the print head comes in,or the inside of the protective cap - this has noeffect on print quality. Be careful not to get ink onyourself when handling these items.c Remove the orange protective cap fromthe Print Head and discard it.Protective CapElectrical ContactsPrint Head NozzlesImportantDo not touch the print head nozzles and the elec-trical contacts.d Insert the Print Head.Do not touch!e Push the Print Head to hold it in place,and lower the Print Head Lock Levercarefully.ImportantIf the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) is left openfor more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holdermoves to the right. Close and reopen the ScanningUnit (Printer Cover) to return the Holder to thecenter.f Make sure that the Print Head isinstalled correctly.ImportantBe sure that the Print Head Lock Lever is pressedall the way down, and that the Print Head is lockedfirmly in place. If the Print Head is tilted forward, orthe Print Head Lock Lever is pressed only halfwaydown, raise the Print Head Lock Lever and removethe Print Head, and then reinstall the Print Head.3 Install the Ink Tanksa Pull the orange tape in the direction ofthe arrow to peel off the protective filmand remove the film completely.If the air hole is blocked with the remaining film, inkmay leak out or may not eject properly.b Twist off and discard the orangeprotective cap located on the bottom ofthe ink tank.Electrical ContactsInk PortProtective CapDo not press!ImportantDo not touch the electrical contacts.Do not touch the ink port.c Insert the ink tank into the right-handslot and press the mark on the inktank until it clicks into place.d Make sure the ink lamp lights red.Refer to the color guide on thePrint Head Lock Lever.••e Lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover)slightly to set the Scanning UnitSupport back to its original position,and then gently close the Scanning Unit(Printer Cover).ImportantOnce you have installed the Print head and inktanks, wait about two minutes until the message“Perform head alignment in the case colors orlines are off.” appears, then press the OK button.The Copy standby screen appears on the LCD.Hardware setup is now complete.Next, turn over and install the software.For fax usersTo use a fax, you need to set the telephoneline type setting properly on the machine.If you are unsure of your telephone line type,contact your telephone company.Select the receive mode according to yourneeds.When you have a dedicated telephone linefor fax use only:→ FAX only modeWhen you are using a single telephoneline for faxes and voice calls:If you receive mainly voice calls andsometimes faxes→ TEL priority modeIf you receive mainly faxes andsometimes voice calls→ FAX priority modeWhen you subscribe to a ring patterndetection service provided by yourtelephone company:→ DRPDFor details on how to confirm and changethe settings, refer to the Quick Start Guide.•••Loading PaperThis machine offers two paper sources to loadprinting paper; the Rear Tray, found at the topof the machine, and the Front Tray, found at thefront of the machine.NoteAt purchase, the machine is set to feed from theFront Tray.You can load A4, Letter, or B5-sized plain paperin the Front Tray. When using any other type ofpaper, load it in the Rear Tray.Rear TrayFront TrayLoading Paper in the Rear Traya Load the paper in the Rear Tray withthe print side facing UP.b Align the paper stack against theCover Guide on the right side of thePaper Support.c Slide the Paper Guide against theleft side of the paper stack.Paper GuidePrint side facing UP.Cover GuideLoading Paper in the Front Traya Load the paper in the Front Tray withthe print side facing DOWN and theleading edge to the far side.b Align the paper stack against theright edge of the Front Tray.c Align the near and the left edges ofthe paper with the Paper Size Mark.d Slide the Paper Guide against theleft side of the loaded paper stack.Paper GuidePrint side facing DOWN.Paper Size MarkNoteFor details, refer to the Quick Start Guide.••2 Install the Print HeadImportantWhen cleaning the exterior of the machine, use a soft cloth to wipe it gently.
