Checking the ExposureThe iris is controlled automatically. Make sure theexposure indicator does not point to an extremelyhigh or low position. If the indicator points to an ex¬tremely high position, use an ND (neutral density)filter. If it points to an extremely low position, firstuse additional lighting so that the indicator movescloser to the center. If the indicator continues topoint to a low position, set the standby/operateswitch to UP; “GAIN UP" will appear in the viewfin¬der.• Picture quality will be somewhat lower with theswitch set to UP.Selecting the Focusing ModeIS--3—uINh1-1 LENSMACROone-shotaf JMANUAL-|AUTOFOCUSFocus is adjusted by setting the focus selector tothe desired focusing mode. Three modes areavailable:1 Autofocus: Set the focus selector to AUTO.2 Manual focus: Set the focus selector toMANUALFor manual focus, first set the zooming lever tothe maximum focal length (telephoto setting)and focus the lens. Then frame the picture asdesired by zooming the lens.3 One-shot autofocus: Push and hold the focusselector up to the ONE-SFIOT AF position.When released, focus switches back automati¬cally to manual.• When using either of the autofocus modes, abright rectangle denoting the autofocus areawill appear in the viewfinder. When shooting,compose the picture so that the subject is in thecenter of the rectangle.• Do not block the camera’s autofocus windowwith your hand or other object during recording.Also, attach the camera cable to the cableclamp on the handgrip so that the cable doesnot get in the way.15
