When a Toner Cartridge isinstalled, the Toner Sensor contacts with the lower side of the cartridge and it converts themagnetic changes in the cartridge into voltage. Then, CPU of engine controller PCB compares the output voltage of the Toner Sensor withthe reference value to detect the toner level.Toner level detection is performed at startup of the Main Motor. The toner level detection sequence starts after the Main Motor is started up and stabilizationtime (200msec) has passed. The toner level detection sequence continues until the MainMotor stops. There are following 2 types of toner level detection sequence: sequence atwarm-up rotation when opening door or turning ON the power, and sequence at normalrotation.1) Sequence at normal rotationFrom the start of detection, detection value of magnetic toner is sampled for every 5 msec.Remaining toner level is judged based on the average value and ripple value (V Peak toPeak) of the Magnetic Sensor output while the Stirring Stick makes a full turn.Time the Stirring Stick makes a full turn and number of samplesIn case the process speed is 150mm/sec, time is 1.9 sec (380 samples). In case the process speed is 75mm/sec, time is 3.8 sec (760 samples).2) Sequence at warm-up rotationConditions of sampling and remaining toner level judgment are the same as thosementioned above. However, in the case that toner Low is detected even at once during warm-up rotationsequence, toner Low is remained to be displayed.● 3In1 ModelThis equipment has no function of toner level detection.■ Specification of Toner level displayToner level can be checked by pressing Status Monitor/Cancel key and selecting toner level. The display of toner level is just a rough indication. In the case of 4-in-1 models, the toner level is corrected depending on the usage conditions. In the case of 3-in-1 models, a predicted value is displayed because they do not have thefunction to correct the level. In the following cases, status of toner level is considered as unidentified, and OK (100%) isdisplayed on the panel.• After power-on• Right after recovery from engine sleep mode• During opening/closing the door• When the cartridge is not installed● 4in1 ModelDisplay Hnadling Complementcartridge.>This message notifies you that atoner cartridge needs to be replacedsoon. Shake the toner cartridge toevenly distribute the toner inside thecartridge. Replace the toner cartridgeif you see this message before youstart to print a large job.remaining in thecartridge is very low.>The toner cartridge is about to reachthe end of its lifetime. Shake the tonercartridge to evenly distribute the tonerinside the cartridge. If this does notimprove the print quality, replace thetoner cartridge.• If this message is displayed, theincoming fax will be stored in thememory without being printed. Also, reports are not printed, even if theyare set to be printed automatically.• You can continue printing when thismessage is displayed, but the printquality may deteriorate. When a message is displayed• If the message is displayed whenthe machine is receiving a fax orautomatic report output is set, received faxes and reports will bestored in the machine so that theydo not appear faded after they areprinted.• To continue printing even if the toneris running low, set When Near Cart.
