54• If a suspected malfunction occurs with your oil controlsystem, such as the burner not lighting when it should, refer to the “Shutting Down Your Furnace” section andcall your dealer as soon as possible.CHECK AIR FILTERS: Before attempting to startyour furnace, be sure the furnace air filters are cleanand in place. See “Performing Routine Maintenance”section in this manual. Then proceed as follows:STEPS FOR STARTING YOURFURNACE1. Open all warm air registers and make sure that allreturn-air grills are unobstructed.2. If a humidifier is installed with your system, openthe water supply valve.3. Make sure blower access door is secured in place.4. Set your room thermostat to the lowest temperaturesetting. (See Fig. 5.)55. Turn on electric power to the furnace. (See Fig. 6.)6. Open the oil supply valve. (See Fig. 7.)6 77. Check all connections to ensure there are no leaks.8. Set room thermostat to a temperature slightly aboveroom temperature. This will automatically signalthe furnace to start.9. When the thermostat calls for heat, power from thetransformer energizes the fan control board. The fancontrol energizes the ignition control. The ignitioncontrol will automatically light the burner. The electronic fan control automatically turns onthe blower after 60 sec. Fan on control is not adjust-able. The air moved over the heat exchanger by theblower is warmed and passes through the ducts tothe room registers. This unit is equipped with a continuous ignitioncontrol. If the main burner does not ignite within30 sec from the call for heat, the control will lockout. The red button on top of the control must bedepressed for 3 sec in order to reset the control. The control CANNOT be reset from the roomthermostat.10. Set your thermostat to the temperature that satisfiesyour comfort requirements. SUGGESTION: Set-ting the thermostat back a few degrees and compen-sating for the difference with warmer clothing canmake a big difference in your fuel consumption onextremely cold days. The few degrees at the top ofyour thermostat “comfort level” are the most costlydegrees to obtain. When room temperature drops below the tempera-ture selected on the thermostat, the furnace will beswitched on automatically. When room temperaturereaches the degree selected on the thermostat, thefurnace will be switched off automatically. Some thermostats have a FAN mode with 2 selec-tions, AUTO and ON. When thermostat is set toAUTO, the furnace blower cycles on and off, con-trolled by the thermostat. In ON mode, the furnaceblower runs continuously.
