KCASERIES8■ TIMER MODE — Your Carrier Air Conditionerunit can be programmed so that the unit will shut offafter a certain number of hours (if operating) or turnon after a certain number of hours (if off).Press the Timer button to start the Timer mode. Thenumber of hours will start at 0. The range is 0 to24 hours.If the unit is operating, the number of hours until theunit will turn off will be displayed. If the unit is off,the number of hours until the unit will turn on will bedisplayed. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW buttons tochange the number of hours.Press the Timer button again to cancel Timer mode.■ EXHAUST AIR LEVER — The 73KCA081 unitsare equipped with an exhaust air lever. When thelever is pushed in, the air conditioner will circulateroom air only. When the lever is pulled out, the airconditioner will exhaust some room air to the outside.ENERGY SAVING TIPSYour Carrier air conditioner is designed to operateefficiently and save on energy costs. Follow these rec-ommendations for even greater energy savings.• Select the warmest thermostat setting that will suityour comfort needs and leave the thermostat at thatsetting.• Keep the air filter clean (clean approximately every30 days).• Use drapes, curtains, or shades to keep direct sun-light from heating the room.• Do not obstruct the front panel air intake. Do notobstruct the top air discharge. Allow air to circulatefreely around the air conditioner.• Start your air conditioner before outdoor tempera-ture, cooking heat, or groups of people make theroom hot and uncomfortable. This avoids an initialperiod of discomfort while the air conditioner is cool-ing the room.• When outdoor temperature is cool enough, use theFan Only setting. This circulates indoor air, pro-vides comfort, and utilizes less electricity thanwhen operating in cooling modes.MAINTENANCEWhen servicing the air conditioner, make sure themode is set to OFF and the unit is unplugged from theelectrical outlet.CLEAN FILTERNormally, the air filter should be cleaned every30 days. The filter is highly efficient in removingairborne particles. More frequent cleaning may berequired in areas with low outdoor and indoor airquality.To remove the filter, grasp the filter handle tabs onthe top center of the front inlet grille and slide the fil-ter out to the top. The filter may be vacuumed orwashed by hand in warm water. Use of a mild deter-gent is recommended. Dry the filter thoroughly afterwashing. Replace the air filter by sliding it back intothe filter slot. Do not operate the unit without thefilter.CLEAN FRONT PANELThe front panel may be cleaned after it is removedfrom the air conditioner. Wash the grille by hand withwarm water and a mild soap. Be sure to thoroughlydry the grille before reinstalling. Never pour waterdirectly on the unit. Do not use gasoline, thinner, orother chemicals to clean unit.CLEAN BASEPANThe basepan may need to be cleaned if there is abuild-up of mold, mildew or algae that could causeunpleasant odors. When outdoor humidity is high, con-densate may not fully evaporate from basepan duringnormal operation. To clean the basepan, run the airconditioner in Fan Only mode for 4 to 6 hours toremove condensate. Remove the front panel. Usebleach or other cleaner to remove mold, mildew, oralgae from basepan. Replace front panel.CARE OF THE REMOTE CONTROLThe remote control should last indefinitely with propercare. Do not expose the remote control to direct heat.Do not spill liquids or place heavy objects on theremote control. Make sure the signal from the remotecontrol to the air conditioner is unobstructed.REMOTE CONTROL BATTERYREPLACEMENTIf the remote control stops working, the battery shouldbe replaced. The battery used is a 3-volt lithiumCR2025. This battery or an equivalent should be avail-able at a local electronics store or electronics section ofa department store.To replace the battery, find the small tab on the backof the remote control. With a fingernail or screwdriver,slide out the battery drawer using the tab. Removeand recycle the old battery. Insert the new battery intothe drawer with the numbers facing up. The batterywill only fit into the drawer one way. Gently slide thebattery drawer back into the remote control. |
