166APPENDIX H — TOUCH PILOT™ WEB AND NETWORK INTERFACE PARAMETERS (cont)ETHERNET/IP CONNECTION PROBLEMS — If the unitis point-to-point connected to a PC (the cable can be crossed oruncrossed) and the unit is energized, it may be necessary tocheck the Ethernet connection and/or configure the PC net-work board. See also the section Unit Is Connected to theLocal Network below. To verify the unit’s IP address, perform the following steps:1. From the computer connected to the Touch Pilot, go toLocal Area Connection Properties and select Internet Pro-tocol (TCP/IP). See Fig. N.2. Click the Properties button. The Internet Protocol Proper-ties window opens. See Fig. O.3. Verify the IP address. If no IP address is configured in the General or AlternateConfiguration tabs, the unit IP address must be config-ured to 169.254.xxx.xxx. Modify the unit IP address andrestart the system. If the PC has a fixed IP address configured in the Generalor Alternate Configuration tabs, the IP address of the PCand the unit IP address must have the system and sub-sys-tem fields in common. The last part of the IP address isthe host number and must be unique on the sub-system.For example:Unit address: 172.30.101.11 and PC address:172.30.101.182. In this example 172.30 corresponds tothe network, and 101 corresponds to the sub-system.4. Carry out all the necessary modifications, and click OK toaccept or Cancel to discard changes.5. Try to access the unit again. If it is still impossible to access the unit, ping the unit by fol-lowing these steps:1. Open a Windows command prompt using one of the fol-lowing methods:• Press the Windows logo key + R to access the Runcommand. Then type the CMD command and pressEnter.or• Click the Start button and then click Run. Type theCMD command and press Enter.2. At the command prompt, type the ping command fol-lowed by the unit IP address. In the example shown in Fig. P, the PC receives four posi-tive responses (replies). In the example shown in Fig. Q, the PC receives four nega-tive responses (request timed out).If the PC receives four negative responses, check the webbrowser parameters to determine if a proxy server or an auto-matic configuration script has been configured (see the sectionProxy Server and Automatic Configuration Script below). Ad-ditionally, Java settings may require configuration (see the sec-tion Javanet Connection below).Try to access the unit again. If the PC still does not re-ceive a response from the unit, restart the unit. Contact yoursystem administrator.UNIT IS CONNECTED TO THE LOCAL NETWORK —The unit is connected to the local network by an uncrossedcable, and the unit is energized. From a computer connected tothe same network as the Touch Pilot, open a Windows com-mand window (Start, Execute, type cmd and press Enter), thentype the command ping, followed by the unit IP address.SELECTa30-5898Fig. N — Local Area Connection Propertiesa30-5897Fig. O — Internet Protocol Propertiesa30-5860Fig. P — Ping — Positive Repliesa30-5861Fig. Q — Ping — Negative Responses
