Each of these units has a ratingplate with the model and serial numbers you will need to reference whencalling an authorized Carrier dealer about your system.Take a few moments now to locate those numbers and record them forfuture reference.USING YOUR NEW CARRIER SYSTEMYour Carrier heat pump system is controlled by a wall-mounted InfinityControl installed inside your home. This system requires an InfinityControl which has software designed specifically to operate this system.See the Infinity Control Homeowner Guide for more details on systemoperation.VARIABLE SPEED OPERATIONYou may notice your system runs for longer periods of time. Thissystem is designed to meet cooling or heating needs of the home at awide range of conditions. Your indoor temperature will remain moreconsistent with fewer drafts, better humidity control, enhanced comfortand enhanced energy efficiency.HEATING AND COOLING YOUR HOMEFor heating or cooling operation, make sure the System or Mode controlis set to the appropriate mode. Then, adjust the Temperature control toyour desired setting. Finally, use the Fan control to select Automatic(turns on and off as heating is needed) or On (runs continuously).Depending on your typical heating needs, your home comfort systemmay also include a supplementary heating source that will automaticallyturn on as needed. You may also select this heat source manually ifdesired.OPERATION UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONSYour heat pump will run as long as necessary to maintain the indoortemperature selected on your Infinity Control. On extremely hot days, your heat pump will run for longer periods at a time than on moderatedays. Your system will also run for longer periods of time under thefollowing conditions:• Frequent opening of exterior doors• Operating laundry appliances• Taking hot showers• More than the usual number of people present in the home• More than the normal number of electric lights in use• Drapes or blinds are open on the sunny side of the homeIMPORTANT HEAT PUMP FACTSHeat pump systems have a few unique features and operations that youshould be aware of:• During the heating cycle, your heat pump delivers a constant flow ofair at around 95°F (35°C)to about 105°F (41°C), compared to suddenblasts of hot air provided by a typical furnace.• Ice or frost may form on the outdoor coil during winter heatingoperation. Your heat pump will automatically melt the ice using itsdefrost cycle. During defrost, you may see steam or fog rising fromthe outdoor unit, which is normal. At the beginning and end of thedefrost cycle, you may hear a ”whoosh” sound coming from the unit. This is normal for heat pump applications.• Heat pumps installed in areas expecting snow are elevated withsupport feet.SOUNDYour new heat pump with Greenspeed Intelligence is different from mostheating and cooling systems. Because this is a variable speed system, itis designed to operate at different speeds depending on the temperatureand humidity conditions. You may notice the sound coming from theoutdoor unit changing from time to time, and from season to season. Inwinter, the system will operate at higher speeds as it gets colder outsideto maintain its heating performance. The higher speed produces a highersound. This change of speeds allows the system to operate moreefficiently and maintain comfortable conditions inside the home. Youmay also hear a slight “purr” at start-up and shut down. These soundsare normal and do not represent a problem with your system.ROUTINE MAINTENANCESimple, routine maintenance as described below will enhance your heatpump system’s ability to operate economically and dependably.
