Only notes played after thepedal is depressed are affected, and any notesplayed before the pedal is pressed sound at theirnormal volume.• Sostenuto pedalLike the damper pedal, this pedal causes notes toreverberate and to sustain longer. The differencebetween the two pedals is the timing when theyare pressed.With the sostenuto pedal, you press the pedal afterdepressing the notes you want to sustain. Only thenotes whose keyboard keys are depressed when thesostenuto pedal is pressed are affected.Selecting the Pedal FunctionA pedal connected to the piano’s PEDAL SOFT/SOSTENUTO jack can operate as either a soft pedalor a sostenuto pedal. When you turn on the keyboard,the pedal is initially configured for soft pedaloperation. You can perform the following operationto select either soft or sostenuto for the pedaloperation.1 While holding down the CONTROLbutton, use the keyboard keys shown belowto select either soft or sostenuto.Using the Built-in MetronomeYou can use the metronome to sound a count that helpskeep you in proper time.1 Press the METRONOME button.• This starts the metronome.2 While holding down the CONTROLbutton, press the BEAT [ ] or [ ] buttonto specify how many beats there are permeasure.• The first value of the beat can be set to a valueof 2 through 6. The bell (indicating the first beatof a measure) does not sound while a value of 0is specified. All beats are indicated by a clicksound. This setting lets you practice with asteady beat, without worrying about how manybeats there are in each measure.3 While holding down the CONTROLbutton, use the TEMPO [ ] and [ ]buttons to change the tempo (speed) of themetronome.• You can also use keyboard keys to change thetempo setting (See page E-13).4 Press the METRONOME button again tostop the metronome.
