8Care and CleaningCleaning the CooktopWARNING• Clean only the parts of the cooktop listed in thismanual. Clean them only in the manner specified.• To avoid dangerous fumes or damage to yourcooktop’s surfaces and accessories, use only thetypes of cleaning solutions specified in this manual.• To avoid electrical shock or burns, turn off the burnersand make sure that all parts are cool before cleaning.DO NOT turn the burners on during cleaning.• Do not use a steam cleaner to clean the cooktop.Steam could penetrate the electrical componentsand cause a short circuit. After cleaning the burners,reassemble all of the burner parts before attempting tooperate the cooktop.• To prevent damage, do not use abrasive or corrosivecleaners or applicators such as steel wool or scouringpads, on any part of the cooktop unless instructed todo so. Use only a sponge, soft cloth, fibrous or plasticbrush, or nylon cleaning pad for cleaning the surfacesof your cooktop.• Do not try to remove heavy spills with a sharp objectsuch as a knife or metal spatula. Sharp objects mayscratch your cooktop’s surfaces.• After cleaning the burners, always dry and reassemblethe cooktop parts completely before use. See page 5.To keep the cooktop looking and operating its best,clean it after every use. Also, quickly wipe up spillsthat occur while cooking. Be careful not to touch anyhot areas.If you allow spills to sit on hot burner parts, theywill burn on and be very difficult to clean. Certaintypes of food, such as tomatoes, citrus juices, vin-egar, alcohol and milk can damage the finishes ifyou allow them to stand for any length of time.IMPORTANT: The cooktop is exposed to extremelyhigh temperatures. The grates are under high stresswhen hot utensils are placed on them. Also, thecooktop parts are occasionally exposed to acidicfood spill-overs. These severe operating conditions,cause the porcelain enamel parts on your cooktopto undergo a change in appearance over time. Ifyou care for and clean these parts carefully, you willslow down, but not eliminate, the aging process.DisassemblyCAUtIONThere is a plastic spill protector located under each knobto help prevent liquids from getting inside the cooktopchassis. To prevent damage, do not remove them fromthe cooktop.1. Turn the knobs to the OFF position.2. For safety, disconnect the cooktop power cordfrom the electrical outlet.3. When the cooktop is cool, remove the gratesfrom the top of the cooktop.4. Disassemble the burners: Lift the burner capsand burner rings off of the burner bases.5.
