Installation manual45 EKHBX008BB3V3SIndoor unit for air to water heat pump system4PW62597-1 – 10.201011. TROUBLESHOOTINGThis section provides useful information for diagnosing and correctingcertain troubles which may occur in the unit. This troubleshooting and related corrective actions may only becarried out by your installer.11.1. General guidelinesBefore starting the troubleshooting procedure, carry out a thoroughvisual inspection of the unit and look for obvious defects such asloose connections or defective wiring. When a safety device was activated, stop the unit and find out whythe safety device was activated before resetting it. Under nocircumstances safety devices may be bridged or changed to a valueother than the factory setting. If the cause of the problem cannot befound, call your local dealer. If the pressure relief valve is not working correctly and is to bereplaced, always reconnect the flexible hose attached to the pressurerelief valve, to avoid water dripping out of the unit!11.2. General symptomsSymptom 1: The unit is turned on (y LED is lit) but the unit isnot heating or cooling as expectedSymptom 2: The unit is turned on but the compressor is notstarting (space heating or domestic water heating)Symptom 3: Pump is making noise (cavitation)INFORMATIONRefer to the service manual to carry out any service modeoperation.DANGERWhen carrying out an inspection on the switch box of theunit, always make sure that the main switch of the unit isswitched off.DANGER: ELECTRIC SHOCKSee "2. General safety precautions" on page 2.WARNINGIn order to avoid a hazard due to inadvertent resetting ofthe thermal cut-out, this appliance must not be suppliedthrough an external switching device, such as a timer, orconnected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and offby the utility.DANGER: DO NOT TOUCH PIPING AND INTERNALPARTS■ Do not touch water pipes during and immediately afteroperation as the pipes may be hot.■ Do not touch the refrigerant pipes during andimmediately after operation as the refrigerant pipesmay be hot or cold, depending on the condition of therefrigerant flowing through the refrigerant piping, compressor, and other refrigerant cycle parts.■ Do not touch the internal parts (pump, backup heater, etc.) during and immediately after operation.See "2. General safety precautions" on page 2.INFORMATIONFor problems related to the optional solar kit for domesticwater heating, refer to the troubleshooting in theinstallation manual of that kit.POSSIBLE CAUSES C ORRECTIVE ACTIONThe temperature setting is notcorrect. Check the controller set point. The water flow is too low. • Check that all shut-off valves ofthe water circuit are completelyopen.• Check if the water filter needscleaning.• Make sure there is no air in thesystem (purge air).• Check on the manometer thatthere is sufficient water pressure. The water pressure must be>1 bar (water is cold)• Check that the pump speedsetting is on the highest speed.• Make sure that the expansionvessel is not broken.• Check that the resistance in thewater circuit is not too high for thepump (refer to "8.8. Setting thepump speed" on page 26).The water volume in the installationis too low. Make sure that the water volume inthe installation is above the minimumrequired value (refer to "Checkingthe water volume and expansionvessel pre-pressure" on page 16).POSSIBLE CAUSES C ORRECTIVE ACTIONThe unit must start up out of itsoperation range (the watertemperature is too low).In case of low water temperature, thesystem utilizes the backup heater toreach the minimum watertemperature first (15°C).• Check that the backup heaterpower supply is correct.• Check that the backup heaterthermal fuse is closed.• Check that the backup heaterthermal protector is not activated.• Check that the backup heatercontactors are not broken. The benefit kWh rate power supplysettings and electrical connectionsdo not match. If [d-01]=1 or 2, the wiring requiresspecific installation like illustrated in"Connection to a benefit kWh ratepower supply" on page 21. Othercorrectly installed configurations arepossible, but are to be specific forthe type of benefit kWh rate powersupply type at this specific site. The benefit kWh rate signal was sentby the electricity company. Wait for the power to return.POSSIBLE CAUSES C ORRECTIVE ACTIONThere is air in the system. Purge air.Water pressure at pump inlet is toolow. • Check on the manometer thatthere is sufficient water pressure. The water pressure must be>1 bar (water is cold).• Check that the manometer is notbroken.• Check that the expansion vessel isnot broken.• Check that the setting of the pre-pressure of the expansion vesselis correct (refer to "Setting the pre-pressure of the expansion vessel"on page 17).
