iEnglishSAFETY CONSIDERATIONSRead these SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS for Installationcarefully before installing air conditioning equipment. Aftercompleting the installation, make sure that the unit operatesproperly during the startup operation.Instruct the customer on how to operate and maintain theunit. Inform customers that they should store this InstallationManual with the Operation Manual for future reference.Always use a licensed installer or contractor to install thisproduct. Improper installation can result in water or refrigerantleakage, electrical shock, fire, or explosion.Meanings of DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTESymbols:DANGER ...............Indicates an imminentlyhazardous situation which,if not avoided, will result indeath or serious injury.WARNING .............Indicates a potentiallyhazardous situation which,if not avoided, could result indeath or serious injury.CAUTION ..............Indicates a potentiallyhazardous situation which,if not avoided, may result inminor or moderate injury. Itmay also be used to alertagainst unsafe practices.NOTE ......................Indicates situations thatmay result in equipment orproperty-damage accidentsonly.DANGER• Refrigerant gas is heavier than air and replaces oxy-gen.A massive leak can lead to oxygen depletion, espe-cially in basements, and an asphyxiation hazard couldoccur leading to serious injury or death.• Do not ground units to water pipes, gas pipes, tele-phone wires, or lightning rods as incomplete ground-ing can cause a severe shock hazard resulting insevere injury or death. Additionally, grounding to gaspipes could cause a gas leak and potential explosioncausing severe injury or death.• If refrigerant gas leaks during installation, ventilatethe area immediately. Refrigerant gas may producetoxic gas if it comes in contact with fire. Exposure tothis gas could cause severe injury or death.• After completing the installation work, check that therefrigerant gas does not leak throughout the system.• Do not install unit in an area where flammable mate-rials are present due to risk of explosions that cancause serious injury or death.• Safely dispose all packing and transportation mate-rials in accordance with federal/state/local laws orordinances. Packing materials such as nails and othermetal or wood parts, including plastic packing ma-terials used for transportation may cause injuries ordeath by suffocation.WARNING• Only qualified personnel must carry out the installa-tion work. Installation must be done in accordancewith this installation manual. Improper installationmay result in water leakage, electric shock, or fire.• When installing the unit in a small room, take mea-sures to keep the refrigerant concentration from ex-ceeding allowable safety limits. Excessive refrigerantleaks, in the event of an accident in a closed ambientspace, can lead to oxygen deficiency.• Use only specified accessories and parts for installa-tion work. Failure to use specified parts may result inwater leakage, electric shocks, fire, or the unit falling.• Install the air conditioner or heat pump on a founda-tion strong enough that it can withstand the weightof the unit. A foundation of insufficient strength mayresult in the unit falling and causing injuries.• Take into account strong winds, typhoons, or earth-quakes when installing. Improper installation mayresult in the unit falling and causing accidents.• Make sure that a separate power supply circuit is pro-vided for this unit and that all electrical work is carriedout by qualified personnel according to local, stateand national regulations. An insufficient power supplycapacity or improper electrical construction may leadto electric shocks or fire.• Make sure that all wiring is secured, that specifiedwires are used, and that no external forces act on theterminal connections or wires. Improper connectionsor installation may result in fire.• When wiring, position the wires so that the control boxlid can be securely fastened. Improper positioning ofthe control box lid may result in electric shocks, fire,or the terminals overheating.• Before touching electrical parts, turn off the unit.• This equipment can be installed with a Ground-FaultCircuit Breaker (GFCI). Although this is a recognizedmeasure for additional protection, with the earthingsystem in North America, a dedicated GFCI is notnecessary.• When installing or relocating the system, keep therefrigerant circuit free from substances other than thespecified refrigerant (R410A) such as air. Any pres-ence of air or other foreign substance in the refriger-ant circuit can cause an abnormal pressure rise orrupture, resulting in injury.• Do not change the setting of the protection devices. Ifthe pressure switch, thermal switch, or other protec-tion device is shorted and operated forcibly, or partsother than those specified by Daikin are used, fire orexplosion may occur.
