5EnglishAn inverter air conditioner may cause electronic noise generated fromAM broadcasting. Examine where to install the main air conditionerand electric wires, keeping proper distances away from stereo equip-ment, personal computers, etc.Particularly for locations with weak reception, ensure there is a dis-tance of at least 10 ft. (3 m) for indoor remote controllers, place powerwiring and transmission wiring in conduits, and ground the conduits.• The refrigerant R410A itself is nontoxic, non-flammable and is safe.If the refrigerant should leak however, its concentration may exceedthe allowable limit depending on room size. Due to this, it could benecessary to take measures against leakage. Refer to 18. Cautionfor refrigerant leaks on page 44.• Do not install in the following locations:- Locations where sulfurous acids and other corrosive gases maybe present in the atmosphere. Copper piping and soldered jointsmay corrode, causing refrigerant to leak.- Locations where a mineral oil mist, spray or vapor may be pres-ent in the atmosphere. Plastic parts may deteriorate and fall off orcause water leakage.- Locations where equipment that produces electromagneticwaves is found. The electromagnetic waves may cause the con-trol system to malfunction, preventing normal operation.- Locations where flammable gases may leak, where thinner, gasoline and other volatile substances are handled, or wherecarbon dust and other incendiary substances are found in theatmosphere. Leaked gas may accumulate around the unit, caus-ing an explosion.• When installing, take strong winds, hurricanes or earthquakes intoaccount, improper installation may result in the unit turning over.4.2. Weather related precautions• Be sure that the air inlet of the unit is not positioned towards themain wind direction. Frontal wind will disturb the operation of theunit. If necessary, use a screen to block the wind.• Ensure that water cannot cause any damage to the location byadding water drains to the foundation and prevent water traps in theconstruction.• When installing in areas where air contains high levels of salt suchas near the ocean; Contact your Daikin sales representative foradditional precautions.4.3. Selecting a location in cold climatesNOTE• When operating the unit in a low outdoor ambient temperature, besure to follow the instructions described below.• The following images are for reference only. For more details con-tact your local dealer. To prevent exposure to wind and snow, install a baffle plates on the airside of the outdoor unit (see 5.2. Service space for space requirement):11 Baffle platesIn heavy snowfall areas it is very important to select an installationsite where the snow will not affect the unit. Additionally, installation ofa snow guard is recommended. When installing the unit in a locationwhere there is heavy snowfall, remove the coil guards to prevent snowfrom accumulating on the fins.If lateral snowfall is possible, make sure that the heat exchanger coilis not affected by the snow (if necessary construct a lateral canopy).Install the outdoor unit so that the bottom frame is at least 19-11/16 in.(500 mm) above predicted snowfall levels.121 Construct a large canopy.2 Construct a pedestal.NOTEWhen operating the unit in a low outdoor ambient temperature withhigh humidity conditions, make sure to take precautions to keep thedrain holes of the unit free.
