In general, the efficiency is the same at therated motor frequency fM,N, even if the motor supplies100% of the rated shaft torque or only 75%, i.e. in case ofpart loads. This also means that the efficiency of the frequencyconverter does not change even if other U/f characteristicsare chosen. However, the U/f characteristics influence the efficiency ofthe motor. The efficiency declines a little when the switchingfrequency is set to a value of above 5 kHz. The efficiencywill also be slightly reduced if the mains voltage is 480 V.Efficiency of the motor (ηMOTOR )The motor of the FCM 300 is designed according to IE2and tested correspondingly after IEC 60034-1.The efficiency of a motor connected to the frequencyconverter depends on magnetizing level. With optimizeddata, the efficiency is just as good as with mains operation. In the range of 75-100% of the rated torque, the efficiencyof the motor is practically constant, both when it iscontrolled by the frequency converter and when it wouldrun directly on mains. The influence from the switchingfrequency on efficiency is marginal.Efficiency of the system (ηSYSTEM)To calculate the system efficiency (FCM), the efficiency ofthe frequency converter (ηVLT) is multiplied by theefficiency of the motor (ηMOTOR): ηSYSTEM = ηVLT x ηMOTORAll about FCM 300 VLT® DriveMotor FCM Series80 MG03BA02 - VLT® is a registered Danfoss trademark44
