5 Commissioning5.1 Safety InstructionsSee 2 Safety for general safety instructions.WARNINGHIGH VOLTAGE!Frequency converters contain high voltage whenconnected to AC mains input power. Installation, start-up, and maintenance must be performed by qualifiedpersonnel only. Failure to perform installation, start-up,and maintenance by qualified personnel could result indeath or serious injury. Before applying power:1. Close cover properly.2. Check that all cable glands are firmly tightened.3. Ensure that input power to the unit is OFF andlocked out. Do not rely on the frequencyconverter disconnect switches for input powerisolation.4. Verify that there is no voltage on input terminalsL1 (91), L2 (92), and L3 (93), phase-to-phase andphase-to-ground.5. Verify that there is no voltage on outputterminals 96 (U), 97 (V), and 98 (W), phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground.6. Confirm continuity of the motor by measuringohm values on U-V (96-97), V-W (97-98), and W-U(98-96).7. Check for proper grounding of the frequencyconverter as well as the motor.8. Inspect the frequency converter for looseconnections on terminals.9. Confirm that the supply voltage matches voltageof frequency converter and motor.5.2 Applying PowerWARNINGUNINTENDED START!When the frequency converter is connected to AC mains, the motor may start at any time. The frequencyconverter, motor, and any driven equipment must be inoperational readiness. Failure to be in operationalreadiness when the frequency converter is connected toAC mains could result in death, serious injury, equipmentor property damage.1. Confirm that the input voltage is balanced within3%. If not, correct input voltage imbalance beforeproceeding. Repeat this procedure after thevoltage correction.2. Ensure that optional equipment wiring, if present, matches the installation application.3. Ensure that all operator devices are in the OFFposition. Panel doors must be closed or covermounted.4. Apply power to the unit. DO NOT start thefrequency converter at this time. For units with adisconnect switch, turn to the ON position toapply power to the frequency converter.NOTICEIf the status line at the bottom of the LCP reads AUTOREMOTE COASTING or Alarm 60 External Interlock isdisplayed, this indicates that the unit is ready to operatebut is missing an input signal on terminal 27. See4.8.3 Enabling Motor Operation (Terminal 27) for details.5.3 Local Control Panel Operation5.3.1 Local Control PanelThe local control panel (LCP) is the combined display andkeypad on the front of the unit. The LCP has several user functions:• Start, stop, and control speed when in localcontrol• Display operational data, status, warnings andcautions• Programming frequency converter functions• Manually reset the frequency converter after afault when auto-reset is inactiveAn optional numeric LCP (NLCP) is also available. The NLCPoperates in a manner similar to the LCP. See theProgramming Guide for details on use of the NLCP.NOTICEFor commissioning via PC, install MCT 10 Set-upSoftware. The software is available for downloading atwww.danfoss.com/BusinessAreas/DrivesSolutions/software-download (basic version) or for ordering (advancedversion, order number 130B1000).Commissioning VLT® HVAC Drive Operating InstructionsMG11AJ02 - Rev. 2013-07-31 215 5
