16• Water penetrating the cofee machine could causedamage.Do not place the appliance near taps or sinks.• The appliance could be damaged if the water it containsfreezes.Do not install the appliance in a room where the tempera-ture could drop below freezing point.• Arrange the cord in such a way that it cannot be damagedby sharp edges or contact with hot surfaces (e.g. electrichot plates).• The appliance gives of heat.After positioning the appliance on the worktop, leave aspace of at least 3 cm between the surfaces of the appli-ance and the side and rear walls and at least 15 cm abovethe cofee machine.Connecting the applianceDanger!Check that the mains power supply voltage corresponds to thatindicated on the rating plate on the bottom of the appliance.Connect the appliance to an eiciently earthed and correctlyinstalled socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only.If the power socket does not match the plug on the appliance,have the socket replaced with a suitable type by a qualiiedelectrician.FILLING THE WATER TANK1. Open the lid of the appliance (ig. 1) then extract the tankby pulling upwards (ig. 2);2. Fill the tank with fresh clean water, taking care not to ex-ceed the MAX level (ig. 3).Put the tank back in the appliance, pressing lightly to openthe valves located on the bottom of the tank.3. More simply, the tank can also be illed without removingit, pouring the water directly from a jug.Important:Never operate the appliance without water in the tank or with-out the tank.Check the level of water in the tank through the viewing win-dow (A12).SETTING UP THE APPLIANCE1. Turn the appliance on by pressing the ON/OFF button (ig.4): the power light I comes on.2. Insert the required cofee ilter in the ilter holder (ig. 5).3. Attach the ilter holder onto the machine without illing itwith ground cofee (ig. 6).4. Place a 0.5 litre container under the boiler outlet and an-other 0.5 litre container under the cappuccino maker.5. Wait until the OK light comes on (ig. 8) and immediatelyafterwards turn the mode selector dial to theposition (ig. 9) and deliver about half the tank through theilter holder.6. Then turn the steam dial to the position (ig. 10)and deliver all the water remaining in the tank through thecappuccino maker.7. Turn the steam dial back to the 0 position and the modeselector dial to the l position (STAND-BY).8. Empty the two containers and replace them under theboiler outlet and the cappuccino maker and repeat points5-6-7.Now the appliance is ready for use.Auto-ofIf the appliance is not used for a certain period of time (variableaccording to the model), it turns of automatically (the powerlight goes out).Tips for a hotter cofeeTo make espresso cofee at the right temperature, the cofeemaker should be preheated as follows:1. Turn the appliance on by pressing the ON/OFF switch (theON light comes on) (ig. 4) and attach the ilter holder tothe appliance without adding pre-ground cofee (ig. 6).2. Place a cup under the ilter holder. Use the same cup as willbe used to prepare the cofee in order to preheat it.3. Wait until the OK light comes on (ig. 8) and immediatelyafterwards turn the selector dial to the position(ig. 9) and let water discharge until the OK light turns of,then interrupt by turning the dial to the I position.4. Empty the cup, wait until the OK light comes on again andthen repeat the same operation.(It is normal for a small and harmless puf of steam to be givenof when removing the ilter holder).Mugs or glasses tray (models ECP35.31 andECP33.21 only)If you are using tall cups or glasses (for example, to make longcofee or macchiato),extract the drip tray and rest the cup di-rectly on the mugs or glasses tray (A14 - ig. 11).Once you have made your cofee, put the drip tray back inposition. |
