Page 11Preparation4x Only use clean pots with an even flat baseto prevent cracking on glass due to hotspots.x Spills may damage the vitroceramicsurface and cause fire.x Do not use vessels with concave orconvex bottoms.x Use only pots with a solid level base. Anuneven base will prolong cooking time andwaste energy.x If the diameter of the saucepan is toosmall, energy will be wasted. The surface may get damagedby some detergents or cleaningmaterials. Do not useaggressive detergents, cleaningpowder/cream or any sharpobjects.Tips for energy savingThe following information will help you to useyour hob in an ecological way, and to saveenergy:x Defrost frozen dishes before cookingthem.x Select the cooking zone which is suitablefor the bottom size of the pot to be used.Always select the correct pot size for yourdishes. Larger pots require more energy.x Pots with a thick base will provide a betterheat conduction. You can obtain energysavings up to 1/3.x Pots must be compatible with the cookingzones. Bottom of the pots must not besmaller than the cooking zone. Use potswith a base diameter slightly larger thanthat of the thermal area. This will ensureeven heat distribution and prevent spillagefrom dripping onto and staining the hotzone.x Keep the cooking zones and bottom of thepots clean. Dirt will decrease the heatconduction between the cooking zone andbottom of the pot.x Always cover the pot with a lid. This willconserve energy and minimize spillage.x Save energy by switching the plate off 5 to10 minutes before the end of a lengthycooking period. The hob will retainsufficient residual heat to complete thecooking process.x A pot with rough edges could scratch theappliance surface if it were draggedacross the surface of the appliance.x Any spillage of sugar solution such as jam, must be removed immediately. If allowedto cool on the surface it could pit anddamage the surface.x Do not cover the appliance surface withaluminium foil and do not use poor qualityaluminium pots. These will leave unsightlydeposits which in time, could adhere to thesurface of the hob.Initial useFirst cleaning of the appliance1. Remove all packaging materials.2. Wipe the surfaces of the appliance with adamp cloth or sponge and dry with acloth.
