International Work Top & Undercounter Refrigerators & Freezers Original User Manual9For customer service, call (800) 733-8829, (800) 773-8821, Fax (989) 773-3210, www.delfield.comNever hose down interior or exterior of unitswith water. This will void the warranty. Wipeinterior dry of any water accumulation. The thermostat must be turned to OFF andthe unit disconnected from the power sourcewhenever performing service, maintenancefunctions or cleaning the refrigerated area.Refrigerators and FreezersThe interior and exterior can be cleaned using soap andwarm water. If this isn’t sufficient, try ammonia and wateror a nonabrasive liquid cleaner. When cleaning the exterior, always rub with the “grain” of the stainless steel to avoidmarring the finish.Do not use an abrasive cleaner because it will scratch thestainless steel and plastic and can damage the breaker stripsand gaskets.Cleaning the Condenser CoilThe condenser coil requires regular cleaning, recommendedis every 90 days. In some instances though you may findthat there is a large amount of debris and dust or greaseaccumulated prior to the 90 day time frame. In these casesthe condenser coil should be cleaned every 30 days.If the build up on the coil consists of only light dust and debristhe condenser coil can be cleaned with a simple brush, heavierdust build up may require a vacuum or even compressed airto blow through the condenser coil.If heavy grease is present there are de-greasing agentsavailable for refrigeration use and specifically for thecondenser coils. The condenser coil may require a spraywith the de-greasing agent and then blown through withcompressed air.Failure to maintain a clean condenser coil can initially causehigh temperatures and excessive run times, continuousoperation with dirty or clogged condenser coils can result incompressor failures. Neglecting the condenser coil cleaningprocedures will void any warranties associated with thecompressor or cost to replace the compressor.Never use a high pressure water wash for this cleaningprocedure as water can damage the electricalcomponents located near or at the condensercoil. In order to maintain proper refrigerationperformance, the condenser fins must be cleaned of dust, dirtand grease regularly. It is recommended that this be doneat least every three months. If conditions are such that thecondenser is totally blocked in three months, the frequencyof cleaning should be increased. Clean the condenserwith a vacuum cleaner or stiff brush. If extremely dirty, acommercially available condenser cleaner may be required.Stainless Steel Care and CleaningTo prevent discoloration or rust on stainless steel severalimportant steps need to be taken. First, we need tounderstand the properties of stainless steel. Stainless steelcontains 70-80% iron which will rust. It also contains 12-30%chromium which forms an invisible passive film over thesteels surface which acts as a shield against corrosion. Aslong as the protective layer is intact, the metal is still stainless. If the film is broken or contaminated, outside elements canbegin to breakdown the steel and begin to form rust ofdiscoloration.Proper cleaning of stainless steel requires soft cloths orplastic scouring pads.NEVER USE STEEL PADS, WIRE BRUSHES ORSCRAPERS!Cleaning solutions need to be alkaline based or non-chloridecleaners. Any cleaner containing chlorides will damage theprotective film of the stainless steel. Chlorides are alsocommonly found in hard water, salts, and household andindustrial cleaners. If cleaners containing chlorides areused be sure to rinse repeatedly and dry thoroughly uponcompletion.Routine cleaning of stainless steel can be done with soap andwater. Extreme stains or grease should be cleaned with anon-abrasive cleaner and plastic scrub pad. It is always goodto rub with the grain of the steel. There are also stainlesssteel cleaners available which can restore and preserve thefinish of the steels protective layer.Early signs of stainless steel breakdown can consist of smallpits and cracks. If this has begun, clean thoroughly and startto apply stainless steel cleaners in attempt to restore thepassivity of the steel.Never use an acid based cleaning solution! Many food products have an acidic contentwhich can deteriorate the finish. Be sure toclean the stainless steel surfaces of ALL foodproducts. Common items include, tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables. If your freezer seems to vibrate excessively when thecompressor is running, loosen (but do not remove) thebolts on the compressor. Semi hermetic models should beloosened before operating.CAUTIONCAUTIONCAUTIONMaintenanceCAUTION
