See“Rear Panel of a J-EX4500 Switch” on page 9. Use the procedure described in this topicto remove the module from the switch chassis.CAUTION: Operating a J-EX4500 switch without the Virtual Chassis moduleinstalled is not supported. You cannot start the switch unless the VirtualChassis module is installed in the chassis.Before you begin removing the Virtual Chassis module from the switch:• Ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions to prevent electrostatic discharge(ESD) damage (see “Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage” on page 186).• Have instructions and tools for removing the fan tray. See “Removing a Fan Tray froma J-EX4500 Switch” on page 130.Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:• ESD grounding strap• Phillips screwdriver, number 2• A replacement Virtual Chassis module. (Install the replacement module immediatelyafter removing the module. Operating the switch without this module is not supported.)• An antistatic bag or antistatic matNOTE: You must remove the fan tray from the switch before removing theVirtual Chassis module. See “Removing a Fan Tray from a J-EX4500 Switch”on page 130.To remove the Virtual Chassis module from the switch (see Figure 57 on page 134):1. Halt the switch using the request system halt CLI command:user@switch> request system haltWait until a message appears confirming that switch operation has halted.2. Power off the switch by performing one of the following:• If the AC power source outlet has a power switch, set it to the OFF (0) position.• If the AC power source outlet does not have a power switch, gently pull out themale end of the jumper cable or power cord connected to the power source outlet.133Chapter 14: Removing Switch Components
