About Your System 37Solving Problems Described by LCD Status Messages (Optional)The code and text on the LCD can often specify a very precise fault conditionthat is easily corrected. For example, if the code E1418 CPU_1_Presenceappears, you know that a microprocessor is not installed in socket 1.In contrast, you might be able to determine the problem if multiple relatederrors occur. For example, if you receive a series of messages indicatingmultiple voltage faults, you might determine that the problem is a failingpower supply.Removing LCD Status Messages (Optional)For faults associated with sensors, such as temperature, voltage, fans, and soon, the LCD message is automatically removed when that sensor returns to anormal state. For example, if temperature for a component goes out of range, the LCD displays the fault; when the temperature returns to the acceptablerange, the message is removed from the LCD. For other faults, you must takeaction to remove the message from the display:W1627 Power required> PSU wattage.Check PSU andconfig. The system configurationrequires more powerthan what the powersupply can provide.Turn off power to thesystem, reduce thehardware configuration orinstall higher-wattagepower supplies, and thenrestart the system.W1628 Performancedegraded.Check PSU andsystemconfiguration. The system configurationrequires more powerthan what the powersupply can provide, but itcan boot if throttled.Turn off power to thesystem, reduce thehardware configuration orinstall higher-wattagepower supplies, and thenrestart the system.NOTE: For the full name of an abbreviation or acronym used in this table, see theGlossary at support.dell.com/manuals.Table 1-2.
