TER0806005 Issue 1 8Determine Per-User Planning BandwidthUse the table below to determine the planning bandwidth per user.If a user has more than one display, use the column for the largest display.Table 2: User Category Planning Bandwidth GuidelinesDisplay Resolution vs Planning Bandwidth TableUser category 1024x768 1280x1024 1680x1050 1600x1200 1920x1200Task Worker 1 3 Mbps 5 Mbps 7 Mbps 6 Mbps -KnowledgeWorker/Basic CAD 10 Mbps 15 Mbps 20 Mbps 22 Mbps 25 MbpsPerformance User / 3DModeling 30 Mbps 45 Mbps 60 Mbps 65 Mbps 80 MbpsVideo Editing - 60 Mbps 80 Mbps 85 Mbps 100 MbpsExtreme BandwidthAllocation - 120 Mbps 160 Mbps 170 Mbps 200 MbpsDetermine the Link Planning BandwidthConservatively, the network should be sized such that, when all users are active, each PCoIP connection isable to achieve the planning bandwidth allocated for each user. The planning bandwidth is the measure of theminimum quality a user will accept and feel they are receiving a true PC experience. For each link in thenetwork, the network capacity required for a PCoIP implementation is calculated by summing the planningbandwidths of all the users sharing that network link, and adding 10% to allow for variations in the traffic profileand to ensure fair sharing of the network resources across multiple PCoIP Host/Portal pairs.Set the Device Bandwidth TargetThe Teradici PCoIP system provides an optional Device Bandwidth Target parameter to enable fair bandwidthsharing between many users sharing a constricted link. It is recommended to set the Device Bandwidth Targetparameter on the PCoIP host to the planning bandwidth for the user.Example Deployment ScenarioThe following example deployment scenario illustrates the ability to fit Teradici’s PCoIP technology withinexisting enterprise network infrastructure. Specifically, this example walks through the deployment of 190 usersthat are segmented into 48 task workers, 120 knowledge workers and 10 performance users within an existingswitched enterprise network.Table 3: Example Bandwidth Determination per User CategoryTask Worker (48 users) Single display 1024x7683 Mbps Planning Bandwidth (Table 2)Knowledge Worker (120 users) Dual display 1280x102415 Mbps Planning Bandwidth (Table 2)Performance User (10 users) Dual display 1680x1050 (wide screen)60 Mbps Planning Bandwidth (Table 2)1 The task worker planning bandwidth estimates, in contrast to the estimates for the other user categories, do not include anallocation for audio streams. If the IT administrator determines audio allocation is required for task workers, increase the task workerplanning bandwidth by 0.85Mbps.
