mm DOCP-15016Caution for Handling the Laser Pick-upThe laser pick-up KSM-220AAN is assembled and precisely ad-justed using a sophisticated manufacturing process in our plant. Do"not disassemble or attempt to readjust it. Please keep the followinginstructions carefully in handling pick-up.1. Handle with Care(1) StorageDo not store the pick-up in dusty, high-temperatured or high-humidity environments.(2) Please take care for preventing from shock by falling down orcareless handling, as this unit is precisely adjusted.2. Laser Diode (LD)(1) Protect your eyesThe laser beam may damage the human eye, since theintensity of the focused spot may reach 7 x 10° W/cm? eventhough the intensity at the objective lens is 400 .W maximum.As the light beam spreads after focused through the objectivelens, it does not effect you in the place as far as more than 30cms. However, do not look at the laser light beam eitherthrough the objective lens directly or another lens or a mirror.In case you should look at it, use ultra-red viewer or ITVcamera.(2) Poison of AsSince the LD chip contains As (Arsenic), as GaAs + GaAlAs,as known as the poison, although the poisonis relatively weak,in comparing with others, e.g.As2O3, AsCls etc., and theamountis small, avoid putting the chip in acid or alkali solution,heating it over 200°C or putting it into your mouth. Put inferiorparts from defected lines and of service parts into a trash box,and throw them away according to the method instructed byour company.(3) Avoid surge current or electrostatic dischargeThe LD may be damaged or deteriorated by its own stronglight if a large current is supplied to it, even if only ashort pulse.Make sure that there is no surge current in the LD drivingcircuit by switches or else. Be careful to handle pick-up as itmay be damaged in a moment by human electrostatic dis-charge. The pins of the LD are short-circuited by solder forprotection during shipment.For safety handling of an LD, grounding the human body,measuring equipments and jig is strongly recommended atthe time of mounting. And still it is further desirable to makeuse of mat on the platform and floor for handling the LD forpurpose of grounding.To open the short circuit, remove the soldering quickly with asoldering iron whose metal part is grounded, after the connec-tor is inserted.Soldering iron to use should be grounded by metallic portionor those with insulation resistance of over 10 MQ (DC500 V)after 5 minute period of power supply.The temperature of the soldering iron should be less than320°C (30W), and removing should be done quickly.3. Actuator(1) The performance of the actuator may be effected if magneticmaterial is located nearby, since the actuator has a strongmagnetic circuit. Do not permit dust to enter through theclearance of the cover.(2) Cleaning the lensIt may change the specifications by attaching dust or ash onthe objective lens. Clean the lens with a lens cleaning paperdampened with a little lsopropylalcohol, not pressing lens withexcess strength by the cleaning paper.4. Lubricant SupplyFor this unit, lubricant supplying at the time of mounting and duringthe operation are unnecessary.However, in case lubricant supplying is desirable due to somereasons, use lubricating grease "FG-84M” (made by Wada Kosan)and be sure to avoid using any grease of the other kinds.5. Laser is DeterioratedIn case the laser current of more than 100 mA is supplied (i.e, whenthe voltage across R203 is over 1V) at the time of laser illumination,replace the pick-up as the laser is deteriorated.
