10ENGLISHGetting started Basic connections Basic operation Troubleshooting Specifications IndexAdvanced connections Advanced operation Explanation termsIf a problem occurs, first check the following:1. Are the connections correct?2. Is the unit being operated as described in the owner’s manual?3. Are the other components operating properly? If this unit does not operate properly, check the items listed in the table below. If the problem persist there may be a malfunction. In that case, disconnect the power immediately and contact your retail outlet.Symptom Cause Countermeasure PageWhen the power is turned on, the powerindicator does not light and no sound isproduced.• The power cord’s plug is not fully plugged in. • Check if the cord is securely inserted into theunit’s AC inlet and the wall power outlet.7Power switches off suddenly while youare using the unit, the power indicator willflash in red at intervals of approximately 1seconds.• The protection circuit will be activated dependingupon the temperature rise in the internal partsof the unit.• Please switch off power at once, and re-applythe power after the body temperature has fallensufficiently.• Please re-install the unit in a place having goodventilation.5IIIPower switches off suddenly while youare using the unit, the power indicator willflash red at intervals of approximately 0.5seconds.• A speaker with impedance not supported by thisunit is used.• The protection circuit has been activated becausethe core wires of different speaker cables havetouched each other or a core wire was slippedout of the terminal and is touching the unit’s rearpanel.• Please use speakers which have the specifiedimpedance.• Unplug the power cord, then after twisting thecore wires together tightly again, or effectingtermination treatments etc, please reconnectonce again.55Even applying power, the power displayflashes red at intervals of approximately0.5 seconds.• The amplifier circuit has failed. • Switch off the power and please contact theDENON service adviser.–The power indicator lights but no sound isproduced.• The speaker cables are not fully connected.• The device you want to listen to has not beenselected.• The volume control is set to minimum.• The input cable is not fully connected.• Connect securely.• Insure the correct input is selected.• Set to an appropriate level.• Connect securely.6786Sound is only produced from the left orright speaker (s).• The speaker cables are not fully connected.• The input cable is not fully connected.• The left/right balance is off.• Connect securely.• Connect securely.• Adjust to a proper balance with the balancecontrol knob.668The left and right of stereo sound isreversed.• The connections of the speakers or input cablesare reversed.• Check the connections to be sure that left isconnected to left, right to right.6Humming sound is heard in the musicwhen playing records.• The player’s ground wire is not connected.• The cables are not fully connected to the PHONOterminals.• Influence from a TV or VCR near the player.• Connect securely.• Connect securely.• Try changing the positions in which the devicesare installed.66–Howling is produced along with the musicif the volume is too high when playingrecords.• The player and speakers are too close together.• The vibrations from the speakers are beingtransmitted to the player through the floor.• Install the player and speakers as far from eachother as possible.• Use cushions, etc., to absorb the speakers’vibrations.––When playing a record, the sound isdistorted.• The needle pressure is incorrect.• There is dirt on the tip of the needle.• The cartridge is defective.• Adjust to a proper needle pressure.• Check the tip of the needle.• Replace the cartridge.–––TroubleshootingBBi-wiring ConnectionThis method of connecting a speaker by using twospeaker cables enables separate transmission oftreble and bass signals. This enables playback with minimal interferencebetween the high-range speaker unit and the low-range speaker unit.MMM/MC cartridge selectThere are two types--MM (Moving Magnet) and MC(Moving Coil)--of cartridges for turntable. As the output levels for these two types ofcartridges differ, the setting of the phono equalizerthat is mounted in this unit must be switchedaccording to the type of cartridge for yourturntable. For switching, use the MM/MC cartridgeselect button.PProtection CircuitThis is a function to prevent damage to componentswithin the power supply when an abnormality suchas an overload or excess voltage occurs for anyreason. In this unit, the power indicator blinks and the unitenters standby mode when an abnormality occurs.SSource directPlayback with higher fidelity to the source becomespossible, as input audio signals are output bybypassing the audio quality-control circuits (bass/treble/balance).Speaker impedanceThis is certain-rated resistance of the speaker setto an alternating current and expressed in ohms. The smaller the impedance, the greater the output. However, load on the amplifier is increased. Usespeakers whose impedance is supported by thisunit.Explanation termsTroubleshootingExplanation terms1.PMA1510AEE2_ENG_002_5th_0222.indd 10 2010/02/23 15:55:18 |
