5ENGLISH Getting started Basic connections Basic operation Troubleshooting Specifications IndexAdvanced connections Advanced operation Explanation termsConnections for all compatible audio signal format isdescribed in this operating instructions. Please select thetypes of connections corresponding to the equipment you areconnecting.NOTE• Do not plug in the power cord until all connections have beencompleted.• When making connections, also refer to the operating instructionsof the other components.• Be sure to connect the left and right channels properly (left withleft, right with right).• Do not bundle power cords with connection cables. Doing so canresult in humming or noise.• Do not turn up the volume without a turntable connected to thePHONO input terminals. Doing so will cause humming or noise.PreparationsConnecting cablesSelect the cables according to the equipment being connected.Audio cablesAnalog connections (stereo)RLRL(White)(Red)Stereo pin-plug cableSpeaker connectionsSpeaker cablesNOTE• Connect the speaker cables so they do not stick out of the speakerterminals. The protection circuit may be activated if the wires touchthe rear panel or if the + and – sides touch each other (v “Protectioncircuit”).• Never touch the speaker terminals while the power supply isconnected. Doing so could result in electric shock.Speaker impedanceUse speakers with impedances within the ranges shown below tosuit how they are used.Speakers used ImpedanceA 4 - 16 ΩB 4 - 16 ΩA and B 8 - 16 ΩBi-wiring Connection 4 - 16 ΩProtection circuitThe protection circuit is be activated in the following situations:• If the speaker cable wire touches the rear panel or screws or if thespeaker cable wire touches the speaker cable’s + and – sides aretouching• If the surrounding temperature is extremely high• If the inside of the amplifier gets hot to extended use at a highoutputIf this happens, unplug the power cord, then check the connectionsof the speaker cables and input cables. If the unit becomes veryhot, wait for it to cool off and improve the ventilation around it. Afterdoing this, plug the power cord back in.If the protection circuit is activated even though there are noproblems with the ventilation around the unit or in connections, theunit may be damaged. Turn off the power and then contact a DENONservice center.Basic connectionsConnecting the speakersConnecting the speakers cablesCarefully check the left (L) and right (R) channels and + (red) and –(black) polarities on the speakers being connected to the unit, and besure to connect the channels and polarities correctly.1 Peel off about 10 mm of sheathingfrom the tip of the speaker cable, then either twist the core wire tightlyor apply solder to it.2 Turn the speaker terminalcounterclockwise to loosen it.3 Insert the speaker cable’s corewire to all the way into the speakerterminal.4 Turn the speaker terminal clockwiseto tighten it.Speaker terminal dimensions8mm5mmConnecting the audio equipmentCautions on playing SA sources:When regular speakers not compatible with SA sources (DVD Audio discs, Super Audio CDs and other sources, including treble componentsabove the audible range), set the properties of the player (DVD Audio player, Super Audio CD player, etc.) for use with regular speakers (oramplifiers). The speakers may be damaged if the volume is set too high when playing SA sources. For instructions on player settings, refer to theoperating instructions included with the player.Basic connections1.PMA1510AEE2_ENG_002_5th_0222.indd 5 2010/02/23 15:55:15
