Follow steps 1 through 5 under Lighting Instructions, page 16.2. Depress control knob and light pilot with match.3. Keep control knob pressed in for 30 seconds after lightingpilot. After 30 seconds, release control knob. Now followstep 8, page 16.CAUTION: Do not try to adjust heating levels byusing the equipment shutoff valve.OPERATING HEATERContinuedShutting Off HeaterTurn control knob clockwise to the OFF position.Shutting Off Burners Only (pilot stays lit)Turn control knob clockwise to the PILOT position.THERMOSTAT CONTROLOPERATIONThe thermostat control knob can be set to any comfort levelbetween HI and LO. The thermostat will gradually modulate theheat output and flame height from higher to lower settings, orpilot, in order to maintain the comfort level you select. The idealcomfort setting will vary by household depending upon the amountof space to be heated, the output of the central heating system, etc.Note: Selecting the HI setting with the control knob will cause theburner to remain fully on, without modulating down in most cases.MANUAL LIGHTINGPROCEDUREWARNING: If you do not follow these instructionsexactly, a fire or explosion may result causing prop-erty damage, personal injury or loss of life.A. This appliance has a pilot which must be lighted by hand.When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly.B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance areafor gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gasis heavier than air and will settle on the floor.WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS• Do not try to light any appliance.• Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any phone inyour building.• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’sphone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire de-partment.C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control knob.Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn byhand, don’t try to repair it, call a qualified service techni-cian or gas supplier. Force or attempted repair may resultin a fire or explosion.D.
