Figure 37 showsincorrect front burner flame pattern. The incorrect burner flamepattern shows yellow tipping at top of blue flame.WARNING: If yellow tipping occurs, your heatercould produce increased levels of carbon monoxide. If front burner flame pattern shows yellow tipping, follow instructions at bottom of this page. Yellowflame on rear burner is normal.NOTICE: Do not mistake orange flames with yellowtipping. Dirt or other fine particles are burned byheater, causing brief patches of orange flame. If front burner flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 37• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 17 [Ther-mostat-Controlled Models], page 19 [Manually-ControlledModels], or page 20 [Remote-Ready Models])• see Troubleshooting, pages 24 through 26INSPECTING BURNERSCheck pilot flame pattern and burner flame patterns often.PILOT FLAME PATTERNFigure 35 shows a correct pilot flame pattern. Figure 36 shows anincorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is nottouching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple tocool. When the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 36• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 17 [Ther-mostat-Controlled Models], page 19 [Manually-ControlledModels], or page 20 [Remote-Ready Models])• see Troubleshooting, pages 24 through 26Note: The pilot flame on natural gas units will have a slight curve, but flame should be blue and have no yellow or orange color.Figure 35 - Correct Pilot Flame Pattern (Your pilot may vary frompilots shown)Figure 37 - Correct Front Burner Flame PatternFigure 38 - Incorrect Front Burner Flame PatternYellow Tipping At Topof Blue FlameOPERATING HEATEROptional Hand-Held Remote Operation (Cont.)INSPECTING BURNERSPilot Flame PatternFront Burner Flame PatternPilot BurnerThermocouplePilot BurnerThermocouple Pilot BurnerThermocouple Pilot BurnerSafety FeaturesWhen away from home for an extended period of time or as achild safety feature to prevent accidental ignition of the fire-place, the receiver ON/OFF/REMOTE switch should be in theOFF position.Auto Shutoff Feature1. If the average room temperature exceeds 82 degrees Fahr-enheit (28 degrees Centigrade), the hand-held remote con-trol will perform a safety override and shut the fireplaceoff. This feature is not available in the MANU mode.2. The receiver continuously receives signals from the hand-held remote to control the room temperature. If the hand-held remote is misplaced, obstructed, or for any reasoncannot transmit to the receiver, the receiver will shut offthe fireplace after 8 minutes.Key Pad Lock FeatureThis feature allows the user to lock/unlock the keypad on thehand-held remote in the MANU or AUTO mode to preventinadvertent operation (i.e. children operating the hand-held re-mote control, etc.).
