Inspect theseareas of fireplace before eachuse. Have fireplace inspectedyearly by a qualified serviceperson. Fireplace may needmore frequent cleaning due toexcessive lint from carpeting, bedding material, pet hair, etc.BURNER INJECTOR HOLDERThe primary air inlet holes allow the proper amountof air to mix with the gas. This provides a cleanburning flame. Keep these holes clear of dust, dirt, lint and pet hair. Clean these air inlet holes prior toeach heating season. Blocked air holes will createsoot. We recommend that you clean the unit everythree months during operation and have heaterinspected yearly by a qualified service person. We also recommend that you keep the burner tubeand pilot assembly clean and free of dust and dirt. Toclean these parts we recommend using compressedair no greater than 30 PSI. Your local computer store, hardware store or home center may carry compressedair in a can. You can use a vacuum cleaner in the blowposition. If using compressed air in a can, please followthe directions on the can. If you don't follow directionson the can, you could damage the pilot assembly.1. Shut off the unit, including the pilot. Allowthe unit to cool for at least thirty minutes.2. Inspect burner, pilot and primary air inlet holeson injector holder for dust and dirt (see Figure53).3. Blow air through the ports/slots and holes inthe burner.4. Check the injector holder located at the endof the burner tube again. Remove any largeparticles of dust, dirt, lint or pet hair with asoft cloth or vacuum cleaner nozzle.5. Blow air into the primary air holes on theinjector holder.6. In case any large clumps of dust have now beenpushed into the burner repeat steps 3 and 4.PILOT AIR INLET HOLEClean the pilot assembly also. A yellow tip on thepilot flame indicates dust and dirt in the pilot as-sembly. There is a small pilot air inlet hole abouttwo inches from where the pilot flame comes outof the pilot assembly (see Figure 54). With the unitoff, lightly blow air through the air inlet hole. Youmay blow through a drinking straw if compressedair is not available. You may also clean the pilotair inlet hole by pushing a common pipe cleanercompletely through the air inlet hole once.Figure 53 - Injector Holder On OutletBurner TubeBurnerTube Injector HolderBurnerTubePilotAssembly Pilot AirInlet HolePorts/SlotsFigure 54 - Pilot Inlet Air Hole(Natural Gas Model Shown)LOGS• If you remove logs for cleaning, refer to Install-ing Logs, page 24 to properly replace logs.• Replace log(s) if broken or chipped (dime-sizedor larger).Primary AirHoles
