www.desatech.com 113997-01B8IMPORTANT: When not in use, the gas must beturned off at the propane/LP gas supply cylinder. When the propane/LP gas supply cylinder is notdisconnected from the heater, the heater and thecylinder must be stored outdoors, in a well ven-tilated space, out of reach of children, and mustnot be stored in a building, garage or any otherenclosed area.IMPORTANT: Indoor storage of the heater ispermissible only if the cylinder is disconnectedand removed from the heater. Cylinders must bestored outdoors out of the reach of children andmust not be stored in a building, garage or anyother enclosed area.CLEANING ANDMAINTENANCEWARNING: Turn off heaterand let cool before cleaning.CAUTION: You must keepcontrol areas, burner, and circu-lating air passageways of heaterclean. Inspect these areas ofheater before each use. Haveheater inspected yearly by aqualified service person.CAUTION: You must checkand keep burner/venturi tubesclean of insect and insect nest. Aclogged tube can lead to a fire.WARNING: Failure to keepthe primary air opening(s) ofthe burner(s) clean may result insooting and property damage.ODS/PILOT AND BURNERUse a vacuum cleaner, pressurized air, or small, soft bristled brush to clean.LIGHTING AND OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONSContinuedBURNER PILOT AIR INLETThe primary air inlet holes allow the properamount of air to mix with the gas. This provides aclean burning flame. Keep these holes clear of dust, dirt, and lint. Clean these air inlet holes prior toeach heating season. Blocked air holes will createsoot. We recommend that you clean the unit everythree months during operation and have heaterinspected yearly by a qualified service person. We also recommend that you keep the burnertube and pilot assembly clean and free of dust anddirt. To clean these parts we recommend usingcompressed air no greater than 30 PSI. Your localcomputer store, hardware store, or home centermay carry compressed air in a can. You can use avacuum cleaner in the blow position. If using com-pressed air in a can, please follow the directions onthe can. If you don't follow directions on the can,you could damage the pilot assembly.Always keep the heater area clear and free fromcombustible materials, gasoline and other flam-mable vapors and liquids.Keep the vent areas (slots in the bottom and the topat the front of heater) clear at all times.Visually inspect the pilot flame and burner periodi-cally during use. The pilot flame should be bluein color (not yellow) and will extend beyond thethermocouple. The flame will surround the ther-mocouple just below the tip. See Figure 4. A slightyellow flame may occur where the pilot flameand main burner flame meet. The burner shouldbe bright orange (with a slight blue color aroundthe border, a red-orange haze that is visible on theceramic tile is acceptable) and without a noticeableflame. A blue flame that rolls out at the top of theceramic tile indicates an accumulation of dust, lintor spider webs inside the casing assembly and mainburner assembly. If the pilot is yellow or the burnerhas a noticeable flame, cleaning may be required.Use the following procedure to inspect the casingassembly and main burner assembly.Figure 4 - PilotThermocoupleAir InletHole
