If ceiling joists, roof rafters or otherframing will obstruct the venting system, consider an offset (see Figure 19) to avoid cut-ting load bearing members. Note: Pay specialattention to these installation instructions forrequired clearances (air space) to combustibleswhen passing through ceilings, walls, roofs, enclosures, attic rafters, etc. Do not pack airspaces with insulation. Also note maximumvertical rise of the venting system and anymaximum horizontal offset limitations.2. Set the fireplace in desired location. Drop aplumb line down from the ceiling to the posi-tion of the fireplace exit flue. Mark the centerpoint where the vent will penetrate the ceiling.Drill a small locating hole at this point.Drop a plumb line from the inside of the roofto the locating hole in the ceiling. Mark thecenter point where the vent will penetrate theroof. Drill a small locating hole at this point.Flat Ceiling Installation1. Cut a 10 3/4" square hole in the ceiling usingthe locating hole as a center point. The open-ing should be framed to 10 3/4" x 10 3/4" (273mm x 273 mm) inside dimensions, as shownin Figure 9 on page 10 using framing lumberthe same size as the ceiling joists. If the areaabove the ceiling is an insulated ceiling ora room, nail firestop from the top side. Thisprevents loose insulation from falling into therequired clearance space. Otherwise, installfirestop below the framed hole. The firestopshould be installed with no less than three nailsper side (see Figure 20).2. Assemble the desired lengths of pipe andelbows necessary to reach from the fireplaceflue up through the firestop. Be sure all pipeand elbow connections are fully twist-locked(see Figure 8, page 10).3. Cut a hole in the roof using the locating holeas a center point. (Cover any exposed openvent pipes before cutting hole in roof.) The10 3/4" x 10 3/4" hole must be measured onthe horizontal; actual length may be largerdepending on the pitch of the roof. Theremust be a 1" clearance from the vent pipe tocombustible materials. Frame the opening asshown in Figure 9, page 10.4. Connect a section of pipe and extend upthrough the hole.Note: If an offset is needed to avoid obstruc-tions, you must support the vent pipe every 3feet. Use wall straps for this purpose (see Fig-ure 19). Whenever possible, use 45° elbowsinstead of 90° elbows. The 45° elbow offersless restriction to the flow of the flue gasesand intake air.VENTING INSTALLATIONINSTRUCTIONSContinuedFigure 19 - Offset with Wall Strap and 45°Elbows45° ElbowWall StrapRoof FlashingCeiling FirestopFigure 20 - Installing FirestopIf area above is not a room, install firestopbelow framed hole.If area above is a room or insulated area, install firestop above framed hole.
