Makesure it is seated properly.7. For (V)V42A series only, place log #7 onto right pin of top log(#5) as shown in Figure 49. Make sure it is seated properly.8. Place lava rock along sides and front of firebox bottom in areasthat are visible only. It is not necessary to use all of the lavarock provided.NOtICE: Do not put lava rock on burner or under burner.Placing lava rock on burner will cause performanceproblems.9. Pull ember material apart into pieces no larger than a dime.Place these pieces loosely and sparingly directly onto theexposed section of the front burner and along space betweenburner and grate prongs (see Figure 50). This will create theglowing ember appearance as flame touches the ember mate-rial. Do not block air slots by using too much ember materialin one area. It is not necessary to use all of the ember materialprovided.10. Close glass door, lock door latches, replace screen and closelouvers (see Removing/Replacing Glass Door, steps 5 through7 on page 19).WARNING: The glass door must be securely in placebefore running this fireplace. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gasis heavier than air and will settle on the floor.WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS• Do not try to light any appliance.• Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any phonein your building.• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor'sphone. Follow the gas supplier's instructions.C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control knob.Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn by hand,don't try to repair it, call a qualified service technician. Forceor attempted repair may result in a fire or explosion.D. Do not use this appliance if any part has been under water.Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspectthe appliance and to replace any part of the control systemand any gas control which has been under water.LIGHTINGINStRUCtIONS1. STOP! Read the safety information above.2. Open lower louver panel.3. Disconnect wire that runs from TH to TPTH from controlvalve.4. Turn off all electric power to the fireplace.5. Push in gas control knob slightly and turn clockwiseto OFF.6. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell forgas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow“B” in the safety information above. If you don't smell gas,go to the next step.7. The pilot is located by the main burner and should notrequire accessing for lighting.8. Turn gas control knob counterclockwise to PILOT.9. Push in gas control knob all the way and hold. Immediatelylight the pilot by repeatedly depressing the piezo sparkignitor until a flame appears. Continue to hold for aboutone (1) minute after the pilot is lit. Release gas control knoband it will pop back. Pilot should remain lit. If it goes out,repeat steps 5 through 8.• If gas control knob does not pop up when released, stopand immediately call your service technician or gassupplier.• If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries, turn the gascontrol knob to OFF and call your service technician orgas supplier.10.
