Use ofblowers or fans other than manufactured by DESA voids thewarranty. Fan is operated by pressing the rocker switch (seefigure 5) in the lower right hand corner of the fireplace face.Blower is operated by turning the control knob (not shown).NOTE: Fireplace must be wired to the house electrical systemin order for fan to operate. Electrical connections are madethrough the cover on the side of the fireplace. Use 14 AWGcopper wire for all connections.CHIMNEY PIPEThe DESA chimney system consists of 12, 18, 24, 36 and 48inch, snap-lock double-wall pipe segments, planned formaximum adaptability to individual site requirements. Actuallengths gained after fitting overlaps must be taken intoconsideration (lineal gain) and are given in the lineal gainchart (see figure 6).ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION OF THE DOUBLEWALL CHIMNEY SYSTEMEach double wall chimney section is consist of a galvanizedouter pipe, a stainless steel inner flue pipe and a wire spacer. The pipe sections must be assembled independently as thechimney is installed. When connecting chimney directly tothe fireplace, the inner flue pipe section must be installed firstwith the lanced side up. The outer pipe section can then beinstalled over the flue pipe section with the hemmed end up.Press down on each pipe section until the lances securelyengage the hem on the fireplace starter. The wire will assurethe proper spacing between the inner and outer pipe sections. For Canada, use only chimney parts designated “HT”Continue to assemble chimney sections as outlined above, making sure that both the inner and outer pipe sections arelocked together. When installing double wall “snap lock”chimney together, it is important to assure the joint betweenthe chimney sections is locked. Check by pulling chimneyupward after locking. The chimney will not come apart ifproperly locked. It is not necessary to add screws to keep thechimney together (exception – see page 5 figure 9).INSTRUCTIONS WHEN ELBOW OFFSET (30E-8DM)OF CHIMNEY IS NEEDED1. To achieve desired offset, you may install combinations of12”, 18”, 24”, 36” and 48” length of double wall pipe (SEESINGLE OFFSET CHARTAND FIGURE 7).2. Chimney weight above offset rests on return elbow.Straps must be securely nailed to rafters or joists (see figure 8,details a & b).3. Maximum length of pipe between supports (return elbowor 12S-8DM) is 6’ of angle run. Maximum of two (2) 6’ anglerun sections per chimney system (see figure 7).Figure 5 FAN SWITCH LOCATIONWARNING: The opening in the collar around thechimney at the top of the fireplace must not be obstructed.Never use blown insulation to fill the chimney enclosure.Figure 6 LINEAL GAIN
