The clearances from the sideof the fireplace to any combustible material and wall shouldfall within the limits shown in figure 19.*Example 1 (figure 19): The face of a mantel, bookshelf, etc.is made of combustible materials and protrudes 4-1/8” fromthe wall the fireplace is installed in. This combustible materialmust be a minimum of 6” from the side of the fireplaceopening.*Example 2 (figure 19): The face of a mantel, bookshelf, etc.is made of combustible materials and protrudes 2” from thewall the fireplace is installed in. This combustible materialcan butt up against the side of the fireplace (i.e. 3” from thefireplace opening) .OPERATING GUIDELINES AND MAINTENANCEINSTRUCTIONSGLASS DOORSGlass doors are optional with the fireplace. When thefireplace is in operation, doors must in FULLY OPENED orFULLY CLOSED position only or a fire hazard may becreated (see figure 20).A fireplace equipped with glass doors operates muchdifferently than a fireplace with an open front. A fireplacewith glass doors has a limited amount of air for combustion.Excessive heat within the fireplace can result if too large a fireis built or if the combustion air gate is not completely open. The following tips should be followed to assure that both thefireplace and the glass door retain their beauty and functionproperly. Both the flue damper and the glass doors must befully opened before starting the fire. This will providesufficient combustion air and maintain safe temperatures inthe firebox.IMPORTANT: The glass must be allowed to warm slowlyand evenly. The tempered glass will withstand a gradualtemperature rise to 550 degrees Fahrenheit, which is morethan a normal fire will generate. Such materials as pitch/waxladen logs, very dry mill end lumber, and large amounts ofpaper or cardboard boxes can create an excessively hot fireand should not be burned in this fireplace. Always keep thefire well back from the doors and never allow flames tocontact the glass.CLEANING THE GLASSClean the glass with any commercial glass cleaner or soap andwater. Do not use any abrasive material to clean the glass. Donot clean the glass with any cool water if the glass is still hotfrom the fire and smoke.Figure 20 GLASS DOORSWARNING: Fireplaces equipped with glass doorsshould be operated only with doors fully opened or doorsfully closed. Doors, if left partly open, may draw gas andflame out of the fireplace opening creating risks of bothfire and smoke.TOP VIEW OF FIREPLACEOPENINGFIREPLACEFigure 19 SIDE WALL CLEARANCESFigure 18 MANTEL CLEARANCE
