In-spect these areas of heater before each use. Haveheater inspected yearly by a qualified service person.Heater may need more frequent cleaning due to exces-sive lint from carpeting, bedding material, pet hair, etc.ODS/PILOT AND BURNER ORIFICE• Use a vacuum cleaner, pressurized air, or small, soft bristledbrush to clean.CABINETAir Passageways• Use a vacuum cleaner or pressurized air to clean.Exterior• Use a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap and water mixture.Wipe the cabinet to remove dust.INSPECTING BURNERContinuedBURNER FLAME PATTERNINFRARED MODELSFigure 28 shows a correct burner flame pattern. Figure 29 shows anincorrect burner flame pattern. If burner flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 29• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 12)• see Troubleshooting, pages 16 through 18Figure 29 - Incorrect BurnerFlame Pattern (Dual BurnerShown)Figure 28 - Correct BurnerFlame Pattern (Dual BurnerShown)CLEANING BURNER PILOT AIR INLET HOLEThe primary air inlet holes allow the proper amount of air to mix withthe gas. This provides a clean burning flame. Keep these holes clearof dust, dirt, and lint. Clean these air inlet holes prior to each heatingseason. Blocked air holes will create soot. We recommend that youclean the unit every three months during operation and have heaterinspected yearly by a qualified service person. We also recommend that you keep the burner tube and pilotassembly clean and free of dust, dirt, lint and pet hair. To clean theseparts we recommend using compressed air no greater than 30 PSI.Your local computer store, hardware store, or home center maycarry compressed air in a can. You can use a vacuum cleaner in theblow position. If using compressed air in a can, please follow thedirections on the can. If you don't follow directions on the can, youcould damage the pilot assembly.1. Shut off the unit, including the pilot. Allow the unit to cool forat least thirty minutes.2. Inspect burner, pilot for dust and dirt.3. Blow air through the ports/slots and holes in the burner.Clean the pilot assembly also. A yellow tip on the pilot flameindicates dust and dirt in the pilot assembly. There is a small pilotair inlet hole about two inches from where the pilot flame comes outof the pilot assembly (see Figure 30). With the unit off, lightly blowair through the air inlet hole. You may blow through a drinking strawif compressed air is not available.INSPECTING BURNERBurner Flame Pattern Blue Flame Models (Cont.)Burner Flame Pattern Infrared ModelsCLEANING AND MAINTENANCEODS/Pilot and Burner OrificeCleaning Burner Pilot Air Inlet HoleCabinetFigure 30 - Pilot Inlet Air (Propane/LP Pilot Shown)Pilot AssemblyPilot Air InletIf burner flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 27, page 14• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, page 11 or 14depending on your model)• see Troubleshooting, pages 16 through 18
