In the OFF position, the blowerwill not operate. In the AUTO position, theblower will start when the thermostat senses asufficient increase in firebox temperature.Note: Your fireplace and thermostat blowerwill not turn on and off at the same time. Thefireplace may run for several minutes before theblower turns on. After the heater modulates tothe pilot position, the blower will continue torun. The blower will shut off after the fireboxtemperature decreases.Note: It is safe to operate fireplace with blowerturned off. However, the blower helps distributeheated air from the fireplace.OFFONAuto/Off/OnSwitchFigure 30 - Auto/Off/On SwitchINSPECTING BURNERCheck pilot flame pattern and burner flame pat-tern often.PILOT FLAME PATTERNFigure 32 shows a correct pilot flame pattern.Figure 33 shows an incorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is not properly heating thethermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple tocool. When the thermocouple cools, the fireplacewill shut down.If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown inFigure 33• turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to Ap-pliance, page 20)• see Troubleshooting, page 23Note: The pilot flame on natural gas units willhave a slight curve, but flame should be blue andhave no yellow or orange color.ThermocouplePilot BurnerFigure 31 - Correct Pilot Flame Pattern(Propane/LP Shown)ThermocouplePilot BurnerFigure 32 - Incorrect Pilot Flame Pattern(Propane/LP Shown)BURNER FLAME PATTERNFigure 33 shows a correct burner flame pattern.Figure 34 shows an incorrect burner flame pattern. The incorrect burner flame pattern shows sporadic, irregular flame tipping. The flame should not bedark or have an orange/reddish tinge.Note: When using the fireplace the first time, theflame will be orange for approximately one houruntil the log cures. If burner flame pattern is incorrect, as shown inFigure 34• turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to Ap-pliance, page 20)• see Troubleshooting, page 23Figure 33 - Correct Burner Flame PatternFigure 34 - Incorrect Burner FlamePattern
