How PanelMate Series 500 Units Work Online With PLCs 2-13A Simulation Built Into Each Online UnitEvery PanelMate 500 online unit includes an extremely informative simulation which isinstalled at the factory during the manufacturing process. We strongly recommend thateven before you continue with installing software and other startup tasks, you apply powerto a PanelMate 500 online unit and review the simulation. (Refer to the Hardware Manualprovided with the online unit for instructions on connecting the unit to a source of 24 VDCpower.)The simulation uses the analogy provided by the operation of a coffee vending machine toillustrate:• the several basic Page types; especially the Menu and Data pages• how pages are linked together and are accessible through the “previous” and “next”navigation keys• how operators use the four soft function keys, the numeric keypad and the eight controlbutton keys• how the built-in LEDs function to indicate alarms or other statusWithout any other instruction, you can apply power to the online unit, follow the promptingon the screen, and begin to simulate operator interaction. However, to see how togenerate (and reset) a simulated alarm, and get the fullest understanding of the simulation,we strongly recommend that you refer to the Appendix of this Getting Started Users Guide. You will find a description of how to operate the coffee machine simulation. The Appendix also references an additional example file which can be found on theExamples diskette. After you have reviewed the standard 12 chapters of this Guide, you will be betterpositioned to benefit from the examples in the Appendix.
