7NOVA™ STS Single-Tank,Triple-Single,Electronically ControlledRecloserINSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS MN280046EN May 20166. Disconnect the control battery.7. For the Form 6 Triple-Single control, remove the controlAC sensing and power connections from the controlusing a separate disconnect switch.IMPORTANTDisconnect switches for AC sensing and power connectionsare necessary to isolate the Form 6 control for testing andservicing.CAUTIONHazardous voltage Open CT secondaries can generatehigh voltages Contact with CT pins of the disconnectedcable can cause electric shock and may result inpersonal injury Open recloser contacts and opendisconnect switches before disconnecting control cableT204 3CAUTIONHazardous voltage Cable conductors attached tocontrols will remain at 53 Vdc and 120/240 Vac potentialwhile connected to the control Contact with any pinsat the end of the cable directly or indirectly connectedto a control can result in personal injury or equipmentdamage Disconnect battery and external power sourcesin the control then remove control cable at control endbefore disconnecting from recloser end T312 38. Disconnect the control cable from the recloser.otee:N Do not disconnect the recloser control cable fromthe recloser unless all of the above steps have beencompleted. The Form 6 Triple-Single control in1-phase trip/3-phase lockout mode or 3-phase trip/3-phase lockout mode will lock out all three reclosers ifthe control cable is disconnected.9. Disconnect heater power cable from the recloser tank.10. Follow standard utility procedures regarding removal ofrecloser from service.●● Eaton recommends transporting Cooper Powerseries NOVA reclosers in the closed position to maxi-mize the operational performance of the unit.Grounding the NOVA STS recloserIMPORTANTIn pole-mounted applications, a ground connection mustbe made between the recloser, transformer, reclosercontrol, and SCADA equipment for proper protection of theequipment. The pole ground must be sized per local utilitypractices to minimize the impedance between the recloserground and the control ground.IMPORTANTAll external inputs to the Form 6-TS control must be routedwithin 8 inches of their corresponding ground. During asurge, a potential of approximately 1.5 kV per foot candevelop in the conductors. Differences between conductorand ground path lengths can add additional stress to thecontrol components in the event of a power surge.IMPORTANTAny external voltage sensor installed with the NOVA STSrecloser must have its ground referenced to the recloserground.Grounding with a local supply voltagetransformere: 4-wire multi-grounded, 3-wireungrounded, or impedance-groundedInstallation with a local supply voltage transformer mustinclude the following (refer to Figure 8):●● Protection of the recloser bushings and the supplyingtransformer with lightning arresters.●● Grounding of the recloser head and tank.●● Grounding of the transformer tank.●● Grounding of the control cabinet.●● Grounding of the SCADA equipment.TransformerSurgeArresterPoleSupply Voltage(14 gauge minimum)Pole Ground(6 gauge minimum) Form 6ControlCustomer Ground Connectionat external lugNEUACGNDNEUACInputTerminalBlockControlCable(s)RecloserGroundConnecterNOVA STSRecloserArresterGroundSurgeArresterArrestserGroundSurgeArresterFigure 8 Recommended grounding method for NOVASTS recloser with Form 6-TS microprocessor-basedrecloser control
