I.L. 3778A20B Page 3Effective 11/97ing screw unless the grounding switch is trippedfirst.• The device cannot be placed into the breakercompartment with the selector switch operatinghandle in place - the handle interferes with thepicture frame in the breaker compartment.• The device cannot be placed into the breakercompartment with the selector switch in anintermediate position since the operating handleis not removable with the selector switch in anintermediate position.• An indicator on the front panel shows the statusof the ground switch contacts - “Open” or“Closed”, Figure 3.• The grounding switch can be locked closed witha key interlock or padlock. This is accom-plished by locking the sliding cover on thedevice front panel to prevent access to the man-ual “Push to Open” button and cable receptacle,Figure 3.• The grounding switch cannot be electricallyclosed when the upper test ports are open. Thekey interlock auxiliary switch contact KT in thecontrol circuit prevents closing, Figure 6.• The grounding switch cannot be manuallyclosed. The spring charging socket and manualclose button are both covered by the devicefront panel, Figure 3.• The grounding switch can be closed only electri-cally by a control switch at the end of a 50 ft.cable supplied with the device. Access to themanual close button is blocked by the devicefront panel.• The power to operate the grounding switch inthis device is obtained through the secondarydisconnect in the breaker compartment.• The control switch cable is connected to thedevice with a twist lock connector.• The selector switch operating handle can beremoved only when the blades are fullyengaged with either the upper or lower termi-nals, Figure 5.• The selector switch operating handle cannot beinserted when the device is in the breaker com-partment.• The selector switch mechanism has a springloaded latch pin which holds the blades latchedeither to the upper or lower terminals.• An indicator at the upper left front of the deviceshows the status of the selector switch contactconnection Upper Terminals or LowerTerminals, Figure 3.• The selector switch can be locked in the lowerposition only with a key interlock KT1 in Figure4. This can be done only when the device isoutside the breaker compartment.• The upper test ports are permanently connectedto the Upper Terminals.• When electrical tripping is provided, (not rec-ommended) the ground switch cannot beopened electrically in less than 20 seconds afterclosing, Figure 6. This feature permits thesource interrupter to clear a fault if the ground-ing switch is inadvertently closed on an ener-gized circuit as this device has no interrupt-ing capability.• The upper test ports are locked closed with keyinterlock KT2 in Figure 2. They can be openedonly when the device is outside the breakercompartment and the selector switch has beenlocked in the lower position by key interlock KTlin Figure 2 and the key obtained from KTl isused to unlock key interlock KT2 at the uppertest ports.• The lower (Selectable Terminals) test ports con-nect to the selector switch hinges. Figure 2.• The terminals to be grounded are always con-nected to the lower (Selectable Terminals) testports.• The lower test ports are always available forvoltage checking.• The lower (Selectable Terminals) test portscan be padlocked in the closed position. |
