21 CS-450PChain brake functionWhen the lever is pushed forward, chain brakeinstantly stops the chain.Chain brake unlockWhen the lever is fully pulled, toward theoperator, brake is unlocked.KickbackKickback motion CHAIN BRAKE OPERATION• Set the lever in the unlocked position beforestarting to cut.• If the brake is tripped by kickback reaction, thechain will stop immediately. Release the throt-tle to avoid possible damage to the engine orclutch.• Do not attempt to operate the engine with thebrake locked.TESTING THE BRAKE• Start the engine on a solid level surface and runat a fast idle until warm.• Hold the saw firmly by the handles and acceler-ate the engine to a fast idle.• Slowly operate the chain brake lever while hold-ing the saw firmly on the ground.When the brake lever trips, the chain shouldstop.Immediately release the throttle trigger.WARNINGIf the chain does not stop immediately,return the saw to your authorized ECHOdealer for repair.NOTE• For practice, while cutting a small tree, pushthe lever forward to lock the brake.• Confirm that the brake works properly beforeeach use.• If the chain brake is clogged with wood chips,function of the brake may deteriorate. Alwayskeep the device clean.• Do not increase engine revolution while thechain brake is locked.• Use the chain brake only in starting or in emer-gencies.• When using throttle latch at starting, keep thechain brake locked.IMPORTANTDo not allow the saw to tip forward in order toavoid damage to the chain.
