Appendix AReplacing Optical Transceivers or ChassisA - 4WARNINGFiber-optic ports must be protected by blank covers, rubber grommet fillers,or cable connectors at all times to prevent dust from collecting in thetransceivers. The ARX-2500 contains two optical ports (located on the front of thechassis). You are notified of the failure of an optical transceiver through an SNMPtrap. If you receive an email notification of a failure, consult the ARX SNMPReference for details on how to proceed.Replacing the ChassisSome failures require you to swap out the entire chassis. To complete thisprocess, step through the following procedure that includes failing over andpowering down the failed switch.1. Copy the current running configuration to another system (copyrunning-config).If the ARX-2500 is a standalone installation, copy the globalconfiguration to another system (copy global-config).2. For the failed switch, write down:• system password• IP address• subnet mask (for the out-of-band management port)• UUID• IP address for the private internal subnet• system master-keyThese parameters were set during the initial interview. You can enter the show master-key command to get an encryptedcopy of the master key.3. Power down by pressing the power button to the 0 position. (Thepower button is located to the right of the power supplies.)4. Turn off and unplug all peripheral devices connected to theARX-2500.5. Label each network cable with the name of the port to which it wasconnected.6. Remove all cables, including all power cables.7. Remove any screws that hold the switch in the rack.8. Pull the switch out of the rack.
