Adesktop/wall mounting pedestal isbuilt into the base of the phone.1. Slide the RINGER volumeswitch (on the handset) to thedesired volume.2. Set the receiver volume switch (on the handset) to thedesired listening volume.3. Plug the telephone line cord into a modular wallphone jack.WALL MOUNT INSTALLATIONYour telephone may also be mounted on a wall plate(not included).NOTE: To prevent the handset from falling out of the cradle while thephone is hanging on the wall, you must reverse the handset hook(located on the base).1. Rotate the handset hook tab to an upright position.2. Push the button on the cradle and pull out the cradle bracket.3. Rotate bracket 180 degree and put it back on the base.4. Plug the telephone line cord into a modular wall phone jack.5. Slip the mounting holes on the base over the wall plate posts and firmly slide theunit down into place (wall plate not included).WRAPPING THE TELEPHONE L INE CORDIn desktop or wall mount mode, you may want to wrap the excess telephone line cordaround the mounting bracket on the bottom of the base.TELEPHONE O PERATIONREDIALThis unit redials up to 32 digits. To automatically redial the last number you called:1. Pick up the handset and wait for a dial tone.2. Press the redial button.FLASHPress the flash button instead of the hook switch to activate custom calling servicessuch as call waiting or call transfer. Custom calling services are provided by thephone company.RECEIVER VOLUMEYou may control the ringer volume level with the switch located on the side ofthe handset.RINGER V OLUMEYou may control the ringer volume level with the switch located on the side of thebase and handset.2 = ringer tone will be loud1 = ringer tone will be low0 = telephone will not ring.MEMORYEach memory button is capable of storing phone numbers up to 16 digits.S TORING A NUMBER IN M EMORY1. Pick up the handset, and press the store button.2. Dial the number to be stored (up to 16 digits).3. Press store again.4. Press a memory location button 0-9, A, B, C, and hang up the handset.INSERTING A P AUSE IN THE DIALING SEQUENCEUse the redial button to add pauses to a dialing sequence, for example after you dial9 for an outside line. A pause is approximately 4 seconds long and counts as one ofthe 16 digits that can be stored in the sequence.CHANGING A S TORED NUMBERTo change a stored number, you just replace it with a different number using theprocedure for storing a number.DIALING A STORED NUMBER1. Pick up the handset, and wait for a dial tone.2. For numbers stored in memory locations 0-9, press the MEM button first, thenpress the memory location 0-9. The number dials automatically.For numbers stored in one touch memory locations (A, B, C), press the memorylocation (A, B, or C), and the number dials automatically.NOTE: Stored numbers are saved using the power from the telephoneline cord. If you disconnect the line cord from the modular phone (wall)jack, the numbers stored in memory are lost.D ELETING A STORED NUMBER FROM M EMORY1. Press the store button.2. Press the redial button.3. Press the store button again.4. Press the memory location where the number is to be deleted.CHAIN D IALINGLink several memory locations in sequence by following this example:Number is ForMemory LocationLong distance access number 7Authorization code 8Frequently called long distance number 91. Pick up the handset to get a dial tone.2. Press the mem button, and then press 7.3. When you hear the access tone, press the mem button, and then press 8.4. At the next access tone, press the mem button, and then 9.IMPORTANT: If you make test calls to emergency numbers, remain onthe line and explain the reason for the call to the dispatcher. Also, makethese calls in off-peak hours, such as early morning or late evening.NOTE: If you make a mistake while storing a number, hang up andrepeat the storing procedure.T ROUBLESHOOTING TIPSNo dial tone:• Press and release the hook switch. Check the hook switch: Does it fully extendwhen the handset is lifted from the cradle?Phone doesn’t ring:• Make sure RINGER switch (located on the handset) is set to loud or low.• You may have too many extension phones on your line. Unplug someextension phones.• Check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone see solutions for "No dial tone."Other party cannot hear you:• Make sure phone cord is securely plugged in.• Make sure extension phones are on the hook at the same time you're using thephone. It is normal for the volume to drop when additional extension phones areused at the same time.Phone "howls" when handset is placed near base and handset volume level is too high:• This is normal feedback due to handset volume level being set to maximum.G ENERAL P RODUCT C ARETo keep your telephone working and looking good, follow these guidelines:• Avoid putting the phone near heating appliances and devices that generateelectrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps).• DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.• Avoid dropping and other rough treatment to the phone.• Clean with a soft cloth.• Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will damagethe finish.• Retain the original packaging in case you need to ship the phone at a later date.T ELEPHONE N ETWORK I NFORMATIONShould your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm the telephonenetwork, the telephone company, where practicable, may notify you that temporarydiscontinuance of service may be required. Where prior notice is not practicable andthe circumstances warrant such action, the telephone company may temporarilydiscontinue service immediately.The telephone company may make changes in its communications facilities,equipment, operations or procedures where such action is required in the operationof its business. If these changes are expected to affect the use or performance ofyour telephone equipment, the telephone company will likely give you adequatenotice to allow you to maintain uninterrupted service.Notice must be given to the telephone company upon termination of your telephonefrom your line.REN NUMBEROn the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among other information, theRinger Equivalence Number (REN) for the equipment.The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you may connect to yourtelephone line and still have all of these devices ring when your telephone number iscalled. In most (but not all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected toone line should not exceed 5.
