They may prevent detergentfrom circulating during the wash cycle.The lower rack is best used for plates, saucers,and cookware. Large items such as broiler pansand racks should go along the sides. Loadplatters, pots and bowls along the sides, incorners, or in the back. The soiled side of itemsshould face the center of the rack.Fold-down fingers (on some models) provideflexibility for extra large and hard-to-fit items.The fingers may be left in the up position orfolded down to customize the lower rack.Silverware BasketPut flatware in the removable basket with forkand knife handles up to protect your hands. Placespoons in the basket with handles down. Mixknives, forks and spoons so they don’t nesttogether. Distribute evenly. Small plastic items,such as measuring spoons and lids from smallcontainers, should go in the bottom of thesilverware basket with silverware on top.To increase the flexibility of the lower rack, thesilverware basket may be split. Grasp the basket atopposite corners and slide apart. The basketsections should be placed in the lower rack byhanging them on the top hoop.A security cell cover (onsome models) hinged insome handles can belowered to either side tosecure lightweight itemsfrom the effects of thevigorous wash action.Don’t let anyitem extendthrough bottom.19
