25Safety Instructions Operating InstructionsSafety Instructions Operating Instructions Care and Cleaning Troubleshooting Tips Consumer SupportUsing the self-cleaning oven.GEAppliances.comThe oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly.Before a Clean CycleWe recommend venting your kitchenwith an open window or using aventilation fan or hood during the firstself-clean cycle.Remove the convection roasting rack,broiler pan, broiler grid, probe, allcookware and any aluminum foil fromthe oven.NOTE:n If your oven is equipped with nickeloven shelves, remove them before youbegin the self-clean cycle.n If your oven is equipped with grayporcelain-coated oven shelves, theymay be left in the oven during theself-clean cycle.The nickel oven shelves (on somemodels) and the convection roasting rackcan be self-cleaned, but they will darken,lose their luster and become hard to slide.Soil on the front frame of the range andoutside the gasket on the door will needto be cleaned by hand. Clean these areaswith hot water, soap-filled steel-wool padsor cleansers such as Soft Scrub.®. Rinsewell with clean water and dry.Do not clean the gasket. The fiberglassmaterial of the oven door gasket cannotwithstand abrasion. It is essential for thegasket to remain intact. If you notice itbecoming worn or frayed, replace it.Wipe up any heavy spillovers on the ovenbottom.Make sure the oven light bulb cover isin place and the oven light is off.IMPORTANT: The health of some birdsis extremely sensitive to the fumes givenoff during the self-cleaning cycle of anyrange. Move birds to another wellventilated room.Wipe up heavy soil on the ovenbottom.How to Set the Oven for CleaningTouch theSELF CLEAN pad.Using the number pads, enter thedesired clean time, if a time otherthan 4 hours, 30 minutes is needed.Clean cycle time is normally 4 hours,30 minutes. You can change the cleantime to any time between 3 hours and5 hours, depending on how dirty youroven is.Touch theSTART pad.The door locks automatically. The displaywill show the clean time remaining. It willnot be possible to open the oven dooruntil the temperature drops below thelock temperature and theLOCKED doorlight goes off.When theLOCKED door light is off, openthe door.The oven shuts off automatically whenthe clean cycle is complete.n The wordsLOCKED orLOCK DOOR willflash and the oven control will signalif you set the clean cycle and forget toclose the oven door.n To stop a clean cycle, touch theCLEAR/OFF pad. When theLOCKEDdoor light goes off indicating theoven has cooled below the lockingtemperature, open the door.n While the oven is self-cleaning,you can touch theCLOCK pad todisplay the time of day. To returnto the clean countdown, touchtheCOOKING TIME pad.
